To join TikTok's Creator Rewards Program, you need at least 10,000 authentic followers and 100,000 authentic video views in the last 30 days. You also need to be 18 or older, live in a country where the program runs and use a personal account. LIVE Gifts and US TikTok Shop affiliate start lower, at around 1,000 followers. None of TikTok's published payout requirements include a minimum number of likes.

This guide is for creators trying to work out which payout they can unlock first, and for anyone weighing up a "monetized" TikTok account. It lists every payout route with its entry requirement. It then explains the part most guides leave out: TikTok ties eligibility to the person who holds the account, their country, their age and their payment details, and not only to the follower count.

Key takeaways

  • TikTok's Creator Rewards Program requires 10,000 authentic followers and 100,000 authentic video views in the 30 days before you apply, according to TikTok's published terms as of October 2026.
  • Creator Rewards also requires legal residency in an eligible country, age 18 or the local age of majority, a personal (non-Business) account and a payment account in the creator's own name.
  • Going LIVE generally needs 1,000 followers and age 18+. Receiving LIVE Gifts needs age 18+ (19+ in South Korea) and a location where Gifts are available.
  • In the US, creators can self-apply as TikTok Shop affiliates at 1,000 followers, and accounts under 5,000 followers start in a 30-day Creator Pilot Program with limits.
  • None of TikTok's published payout requirements include a likes threshold. They cover followers, views, age, residency, account type and payment setup.
  • Because eligibility belongs to the account holder, a monetized TikTok account does not automatically stay monetized when someone else takes it over.

How many followers do you need on TikTok to get paid?

It depends on the route. Creator Rewards and Subscriptions sit at 10,000 followers, LIVE and US TikTok Shop affiliate start around 1,000, and an Official Shop Creator promoting their own store has no follower minimum. Most top-ranking pages repeat the 10,000 figure as if it were the only door. It isn't.

Here is every route side by side, as of October 2026. Rows marked "reported" come from secondary publications that may be out of date, and the LIVE and Shop thresholds also come from third-party summaries of TikTok's rules. Confirm every figure in TikTok Studio before you plan around it.

Brand deals sit outside this table. Terms are negotiated between the brand and the creator, and brands pay for reach and engagement in a niche they care about. If you want a rough sense of what your current numbers could earn, the TikTok money calculator gives an estimate.

What are the TikTok Creator Rewards Program requirements?

Under TikTok's US Creator Rewards Program Terms (last updated May 2025), you need all of the following, and you need them continuously:

  • 10,000 authentic followers at the time you apply or are invited.
  • 100,000 authentic video views in the 30 days before you apply or are invited.
  • Age 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher.
  • Legal residency in a country where the program is available.
  • A personal account. Business Accounts and Organization Accounts are not eligible, and neither are accounts belonging to government organizations, politicians or political parties.
  • At least one valid digital payment account with an approved third party, registered in your own name.
  • Completed onboarding paperwork, including any tax reporting documents. In the US, these are required by TikTok USDS Joint Venture.

The EEA version of the terms covers the same core requirements: 10,000 authentic followers, 100,000 authentic views in the last 30 days and a non-Business account. The documents are separate, though, so details such as tax paperwork differ by region. Don't assume the US wording applies everywhere.

Why "authentic" matters

Both sets of terms specify authentic followers and authentic views. Purchased followers and artificial views are not what TikTok counts toward the threshold. They can also damage the account's good standing, which several routes require. If you've inherited or bought an audience and aren't sure what's in it, run it through a fake follower audit before you apply.

Which videos earn

Creator Rewards pays on original videos that are at least 1 minute long. The EEA terms state the one-minute rule directly. A creator who mostly posts 20-second clips can meet the follower and view numbers and still earn very little, because most of their uploads don't qualify.

Small balances can expire

This clause rarely gets mentioned. The US terms say that if your unpaid estimated rewards never reach the Minimum Payment Threshold, TikTok may, at its discretion, treat that unpaid amount as expired. Creators who join and then stop posting can lose small balances entirely.

The rules can change while you're in

TikTok says the eligibility requirements apply "at all times during participation in the Program", not just on the day you're accepted. It also reserves the right to add or change requirements at its sole discretion, and those changes apply to creators already enrolled. If you drop below the bar or move country, eligibility can end.

How to check if you qualify

  • Step 1: Confirm you live in a country where Creator Rewards is available (see the next section).
  • Step 2: Check your follower count and your total video views for the last 30 days in your analytics.
  • Step 3: If you use a Business Account, switch to a personal account. Business Accounts are excluded.
  • Step 4: Set up a payment account in your own legal name with one of TikTok's approved providers.
  • Step 5: Open TikTok Studio, go to the monetization section and see which programs show as available to you. That screen is the final word for your account and region.

Which countries are eligible for TikTok Creator Rewards?

As of October 2026, reported Creator Rewards markets include the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea, Brazil and Mexico. Mexico was reportedly added on October 1, 2025. TikTok's terms say only "a country where the Program is made available" and don't publish a list, so check TikTok Studio to confirm the program is offered where you live.

Some ranking pages list Italy and Spain, or drop Japan, South Korea and Brazil. Those lists don't match the reported eight-market set. Older coverage that predates the Mexico launch lists seven.

Location is not a setting you can change. The US terms require legal residency in an eligible country, and the EEA terms explicitly bar using a VPN or similar tool. Faking your location breaks the program terms and puts the whole account at risk.

Residency also means creators outside the reported markets can't access Creator Rewards, no matter how big their accounts get. Their options depend on which other routes, such as LIVE Gifts or TikTok Shop, operate where they live, plus brand deals.

Can you get paid on TikTok with 1,000 followers?

Yes, through LIVE Gifts and, in the US, TikTok Shop affiliate. Both open at roughly 1,000 followers, which makes them the realistic first income for most growing accounts. Subscriptions sit higher, and Tips and Creative Challenges higher still.

LIVE Gifts

Going LIVE generally requires 1,000 followers, though TikTok notes the threshold can vary by region, and the host must be 18 or older. TikTok may confirm age with ID plus selfies, a selfie with ID, a credit card check or facial age estimation.

To turn on Gifts specifically, TikTok's Help Center says you must live somewhere LIVE Gifts is available, be 18 or older (19 in South Korea), be eligible to go LIVE and keep your account in good standing. Gifts that viewers send become Diamonds, and your total appears in the LIVE summary after each stream. Gifts are governed by TikTok's virtual items policies.

Subscriptions

TikTok Creator Academy lists the Subscription requirements as over 10,000 followers, over 100,000 video views in the last calendar month, compliance with the Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, and age 18+. You check eligibility in TikTok Studio under Monetization Programs, then Subscription.

An older TikTok newsroom announcement added that creators could alternatively "meet specific LIVE eligibility requirements", and the feature rolled out to select regions. If you mainly stream, check whether a separate LIVE route to Subscriptions shows up in your Studio.

TikTok Shop affiliate

TikTok Shop affiliate creators can self-apply at 1,000 followers. In the US, you generally must also be 18 or older, be based in the United States, pass identity verification and keep the account in good standing.

The 5,000 number you see on some pages is real, but it isn't the entry point. Creators under 5,000 followers go into a 30-day Creator Pilot Program that caps daily shoppable videos and LIVEs and excludes them from campaigns. Reaching 5,000 lifts those limits. Rules vary by region, so check TikTok Shop's eligibility page for your country.

If you sell your own products, the Official Shop Creator route has no follower minimum, but you can promote only your own shop's products. For how affiliate disclosure and payouts work across platforms, see our guide to affiliate rules and staying eligible.

Tips and Creative Challenges

According to Shopify, Tips requires 100,000 followers, age 18+, good standing and a Stripe account, with payouts made through Stripe. According to Buffer, submitting ads to brands' Creative Challenges requires a US-based account, at least 50,000 followers and age 18+. Both figures come from secondary sources and may have changed, so confirm them in TikTok Studio.

Why does TikTok eligibility depend on the person, not the account?

Nearly every payout route above includes requirements that describe a person rather than an account: an age minimum and, for most routes, where they live. Creator Rewards adds a payment account in the creator's own name and, in the US, tax paperwork. US Shop affiliate adds identity verification. Followers and views get an account through the door. The account holder's personal details keep it there.

This matters most if you're thinking about buying a TikTok account because it was "monetized" under its previous owner. Monetization eligibility is tied to the account holder's residency, age, identity, payment account and tax details, so it does not automatically carry over to a new owner. TikTok's terms say these conditions must hold "at all times during participation".

In practice, that means a few things for buyers:

  • If you live outside the reported Creator Rewards markets, the program won't be available to you, whatever the account earned before. A VPN is explicitly prohibited in the EEA terms.
  • If you live in an eligible market, you would still need to meet the requirements yourself, with your own payment account and your own paperwork.
  • Shop affiliate in the US requires identity verification, which ties that route to a verified person as well.
  • TikTok can change requirements at any time, and changes apply to existing participants.

Before buying, read TikTok's current Terms of Service on whether accounts can be sold or transferred. Any restriction there directly affects your risk, so check it yourself rather than relying on a seller's summary. Then value the account on what can actually move with it: the audience, its authenticity, recent views, engagement and the niche. Our breakdown of what drives a TikTok account's price covers those factors. Sellers can find the practical side in how to sell a TikTok account and the real risks.

Buying or selling a TikTok account on PlayerSells

If you decide to buy or sell, a safer structure is one where nobody has to trust a stranger with money first. On PlayerSells, the buyer pays PlayerSells, the money is held in escrow, and the seller is paid only after the buyer confirms the account was delivered as described. Every listing is reviewed by a person before it goes live.

Each deal moves through a fixed sequence: offer sent, accepted, payment pending, paid, delivered, buyer confirmed, completed. Either side can open a dispute before completion. A human moderator reviews it, and the money stays held while the dispute is open. Sellers receive funds in an on-platform wallet and can withdraw after a clearing period. Fees are listed on the pricing page.

When you browse monetized TikTok accounts, treat "monetized" as a description of the account's track record, not a feature you inherit. Ask the seller for recent analytics, and check engagement with the TikTok engagement calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How many likes on TikTok do you need to get paid?

You don't need any specific number of likes. None of TikTok's published payout requirements include a likes threshold. The gates are followers, views, age, residency, account type and payment setup. Likes still matter indirectly, because engagement helps videos reach the view counts that do count.

Is the TikTok Creator Fund still available?

No. TikTok confirmed to Backstage that the Creator Fund "is no longer available" and has been replaced by the Creator Rewards Program. The Creator Fund ended in 2023 in the US and UK. Pages that still describe it as current are out of date.

Can I join Creator Rewards from an unsupported country using a VPN?

No. The US terms require legal residency in a country where the program is available, and the EEA terms explicitly prohibit using a VPN or similar tool. Trying it breaks the terms and can cost you the account's good standing. Creators outside eligible markets can look at LIVE Gifts, TikTok Shop or brand deals, where those are available.

How much does TikTok pay per 1,000 views?

TikTok doesn't publish a fixed rate per 1,000 views, and earnings vary by video, audience and region. Only qualifying videos (original and at least 1 minute long) earn through Creator Rewards. For a rough estimate based on your own numbers, use the TikTok money calculator and treat the result as a range, not a promise.

Do I need a TikTok Business account to get paid?

No, and for Creator Rewards a Business account actually disqualifies you. TikTok's terms exclude Business Accounts and Organization Accounts from the program. If you switched to Business for analytics, switch back to a personal account before applying.

Does a monetized TikTok account stay monetized after someone else takes it over?

Not automatically. Eligibility depends on the account holder's residency, age, identity, payment account and tax details, and TikTok requires these to hold throughout participation. A new owner would have to qualify in their own right, which isn't possible from an unsupported country.

Bottom line

If you're growing an account, aim for 1,000 followers first. That opens LIVE and, in the US, Shop affiliate, which can earn while you work toward 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in 30 days for Creator Rewards. Check your country and set up a payment account in your own name early, since those requirements apply no matter how many followers you have.

If you're buying, pay for the audience and its quality, not for a monetization badge that belongs to the previous owner. Start by comparing TikTok accounts with 10k followers on authenticity, recent views and niche fit.
