How many Bluesky followers is a lot? Check your rank

Bluesky is young enough that nobody has a feel for what a normal follower count looks like there, and the numbers are much smaller than the ones people carry over from X. Across 3.8M Bluesky accounts in our index, the median has 133 followers, 1,155 reaches the top 10 percent, and 9,614 reaches the top 1 percent. Type a handle or a number to place it.

The Bluesky follower distribution

Measured across a sample of 115,643 accounts from our Bluesky catalog. Compared with X the whole curve sits an order of magnitude lower, which is what a network that is still filling out looks like rather than a sign that accounts there are weaker.

Measured on 2026-08-24 over a sample of 115,643 accounts drawn from the 3,802,535 Bluesky accounts in the PlayerSells index. The index carries a genuine long tail, so these percentiles read as a statement about Bluesky accounts in general.

So what actually counts as a lot?

On Bluesky, 1,155 followers is genuinely top-decile and 9,614 is top-percentile, both far below the equivalent thresholds on X. This is the practical case for being early: the same audience size buys a much higher standing here, and an account that would be unremarkable on X can be in the top 1 percent on Bluesky. It also means comparing raw counts across the two networks tells you almost nothing.

Where these numbers come from

The distribution comes from our own crawl of the Bluesky firehose and follow graph. Bluesky is fully public, so coverage is cleaner here than on any other network we index, but the catalog still leans toward accounts that appear in other accounts' follow lists. Accounts created since our last full pass will be missing. The percentile is a statement about our sample.
