How many X followers is a lot? Check your rank
Follower counts only mean something next to other follower counts, and almost nobody publishes the distribution. This page does. Across 18.4M X accounts in our own index, the median account has 550 followers, 7,085 puts an account in the top 10 percent, and 89,454 puts it in the top 1 percent. The X follower distribution
Measured across a sample of 45,308 accounts from our X catalog. The shape is what surprises people: follower counts are so heavily skewed that the gap between the median and the top 1 percent is more than a hundredfold, while the bottom half of the network sits under 550.
| Percentile | Segment | Followers |
|---|---|---|
| p10 | Bottom 10% | 33 |
| p25 | Bottom 25% | 140 |
| p50median | Top 50% | 550 |
| p75 | Top 25% | 2,046 |
| p90 | Top 10% | 7,085 |
| p95 | Top 5% | 15,987 |
| p99 | Top 1% | 89,454 |
Measured on 2026-08-24 over a sample of 45,308 accounts drawn from the 18,486,455 X (Twitter) accounts in the PlayerSells index. The index carries a genuine long tail, so these percentiles read as a statement about X (Twitter) accounts in general.
So what actually counts as a lot?
Two useful reference points. 2,046 followers already puts an account ahead of three quarters of the network, which is far lower than most people assume. And the number people usually have in mind when they say "a big account" is somewhere past 89,454, the top 1 percent, which is rarer than a round number like 100,000 makes it sound. The practical read: growth from 550 to 2,046 moves you past a quarter of everyone, and the same absolute gain higher up the curve barely moves the percentile at all.
Where these numbers come from
The distribution comes from our own crawl of X, not from a public API or a survey. It covers accounts our crawler has reached and read, which skews slightly toward accounts that other accounts link to, since that is how discovery works. Accounts that are protected, suspended or have never been referenced anywhere are not in it. That is a sample of X, a large one, but a sample, and the percentile is a statement about that sample.
