What reach means here, and what it does not

The reach figure is the sum of the follower counts of the distinct accounts that mentioned the handle. It is a ceiling on how many people could have seen those posts, not a count of how many did: overlapping audiences are counted twice, and a post only reaches a fraction of an account’s followers. It is reported next to the number of unique mentioners for exactly that reason - a large reach carried by two accounts is a different fact from the same reach carried by two hundred.

One mentioner can dominate the total, and on X that is the normal case rather than the exception. Across the 18,486,455 X accounts PlayerSells indexes, measured on 24 August 2026 over a 45,308-account sample, the median account has 550 followers while the 99th percentile has 89,454 - so a single top-percentile mentioner adds as much to the reach line as 163 median ones. A 100,000-follower account, the kind people think of as merely large, is already past the 99th percentile of that index.

Mentions come from X’s own mentions timeline for the handle, which is recent rather than complete: it is the current window of posts tagging the account, not its history. Results are cached for 15 minutes, so a mention posted a moment ago may not appear on the very next run. Where a signal is missing it is reported as missing rather than as zero.

Mention and engagement figures are read live from public X data at the moment you run the check. The follower distribution quoted here is our own measurement over the PlayerSells X index, last computed on 24 August 2026.

What this cannot show you

It reads mentions, which means posts that tag the handle with an @. Somebody writing about an account by name, quoting a screenshot of it, or linking to it without the @ is invisible here, and on a well-known account that is often most of the conversation.

It also says nothing about sentiment. A large spike in mentions and reach is the same shape whether people are recommending an account or arguing with it, so read the posts the tool lists rather than the totals above them.

Frequently asked questions

How can I see who mentioned me on X (Twitter)?

Enter any public @username into the Mention Checker and it pulls the most recent posts that tag that account. You'll see who mentioned them, what they said, each mentioner's follower count, and the engagement on every mention.

What is mention reach?

Mention reach is the combined follower count of every unique account that mentioned you. It estimates how many people potentially saw your name come up in their feeds - a quick proxy for brand awareness on X.

Can I track mentions for any account?

Yes. The tool works on any public X account, so you can monitor your own brand, research a competitor, or evaluate an account before buying it - useful for spotting how much organic conversation it generates.

Is the Mention Checker free?

Yes, it's completely free. Guests get one check per day and a free account unlocks five checks per day per tool - no credit card required.

Why does an account with many mentions show a small reach?

Reach is the combined follower count of the distinct accounts that mentioned you, not the number of mentions. Fifty posts from fifty small accounts can add up to less reach than one post from a single large one, which is why the tool always prints the number of unique mentioners next to the reach figure.

Why are some posts about me missing?

The tool reads mentions, meaning posts that tag the handle with an @. Somebody writing about an account by name, quoting a screenshot of it, or linking to it without the @ never enters X's mentions timeline, so it cannot appear here either. Results are also cached for 15 minutes, so a mention posted seconds ago may not show on the very next run.
