İBRETLİK Sultan 2. Abdülhamid, Amerikan Elçisi A. W. Terrell ile yaptığı söyleşinde, Osmanlı'nın Türkleri savaşlara sürüp, Ermenileri nasıl baştacı ettiklerini anlatıyor. Önce yazıdan bir bölüm: 6)Ermenilere Çok Önemli Makamlar Verdik Batı kamuoyunda Ermenilere kötü muamele yapıldığı ve ırki sebeplerle cezalandırıldıkları iddialarına da Sultan Abdülhamid çok çarpıcı açıklamalar yaparak yanıt verdi.Devlet hizmetinde görev yapan çok sayıda Ermeni olduğunu belirtti ve uzun bir listeyi elçiye ileteceğini bildirdi. Sultan çok önemli ve kritik makamlardaki Ermenilerden birkaç isim saydı: •Dadyan: Ermeni kökenli Dadyan’a babam Sultan Abdülmecid tarafından imparatorluk barut fabrikasının tüm kontrolü verildi. Çok zengin oldu. Sultan burada Ermenilere ne kadar çok güvendiklerini vurgulamak için Dadyan’ın saraya danışmadan istediği büyüklükte top/barut yapabildiğini söyledi ve şöyle devam etti: “Yani ordu onun insafına kalmıştı.” •Kuetzroglou: Saray'ın her türlü mobilya, mücevher ve giyim eşyasını temin etmek için görevlendirildi. Büyük bir servet kazandı. Boğaz'ın Asya kıyısındaki Çengelköy’de çok sayıda evi ve muhteşem bir köşkü vardı. Babam her hafta dinlenmeye oraya giderdi. •Agop Efendi: Darphane'nin bütün sorumluluğu Agop Efendi'nin elindeydi. Servet yapma fırsatları elbette çok fazlaydı ve kendisi de çok zengin oldu. •Gümüşgerdan: Ermeni Gümüşgerdan ise Saray Harem'inin kadın kıyafetleri tasarımcısı ve yapımcısıydı. Hâlâ burada yaşıyor ve son derece zengindir. •Balian (Ermeni) ailesi: Sultan Mahmud'un zamanından beri babadan oğula geçerek padişahlar için saraylar ve binalar için seçkin mimarlar olmuştur. Dolmabahçe, Çırağan, Beylerbeyi, Yıldız, Ihlamur Kasrı ve Asya kesimindeki Göksu ve Küçüksu vb. sarayları inşa ettiler ve biri hâlâ benim imparatorluk mimarımdır. •Michael Portakal Paşa: Bir Ermenidir ve şu anda Hazine-i Hassa’dan sorumlu Bakanımdır. Padişaha ait tüm kamu arazileri ve tüm gayrimenkuller üzerinde münhasır kontrole sahiptir. Sultan Abdülhamid’in elçiye sözünü ettiği Osmanlı hizmetinde Ermeniler listesine baktığımızda gerçekten de 106 Ermeni’nin çok önemli makamlarda çok iyi maaşlarla istihdam edildiği görülmektedir. Ermeni olaylarının en kritik dönemlerinde bu kadar kişinin Osmanlı devletinde çeşitli kadrolarda görev yapması Osmanlı devletinin Ermenilere ikinci sınıf vatandaş muamelesi yaptığı iddialarını çürütecek boyuttadır. Ayrıca batıda eli kanlı bir diktatör olarak anılan Sultan’ın da Ermenilerle kişisel bir sorunu olmadığını göstermektedir. 7)Ermeniler Nankörlük Yaptı ve Hükümeti Yok Etmeye Kalkıştılar Sultan Ermenilere karşı ırki veya dini nedenlerle bir nefret duymadıklarını bu örneklerle açıkladıktan sonra Ermeni olaylarının çıkış sebeplerine değindi. Sultan Abdülhamid’e göre Sarayın Ermeni ırkına yaptığı onca iyiliklere rağmen ihtilalci Ermeni komiteleri ve devletin zenginleştirdiği Ermeniler hükümeti yok etmeye kalkışmışlardı ve bu durumda işler değişmişti. Sultan Ermenilerin onca iyilik yapılmasına karşılık nankörlük göstermelerine epey içerlemiş olmalıydı ki elçinin de iyi tanıdığı bir Ermeni cilt ustası ile ilgili şu anısını aktardı: Bu (cilt ustası) adam, geçen yıl 26-27 Ağustos'taki karışıklıklardan sonra korkup Amerika’ya kaçmış. İngilizce konuşamadığı ve iş bulamadığı için geri dönmek istediğini söyleyerek Saray'a bir mektup yazdı ve Sultan’ın sağ salim dönmesine izin verilmesi için talimat vermesini istedi. Daha sonra doğrudan padişaha mektup yazarak parasının olmadığını bildirdi. (Elçi Terrell’in naklettiğine göre burada Sultan gülmeye başladı ve şunları söyledi): “Şimdi Amerika'nın Hıristiyan halkı buna pek inanmayacak, ama ben onun iyi bir adam olduğundan emin olarak adama evine dönmesi için 1000 frank gönderdim.” Prof Dr Kemal Çiçek hocanın Türk Yurdu Dergisine (Nisan 2025) yazdığı yazıyı aynen paylaşıyorum.
