  This is Shweta Sanjiv Bhatt, It is now 4 years, 8 months and 8 days since Sanjiv has been languishing in jail for a crime he did not commit. Following the same Modus Operandi, in yet another gross travesty of justice, Sanjiv was once again stripped off of his basic legal and constitutional right to defend himself. While on one hand, Supreme Court Justice, M.R. Shah, right before his retirement dismissed our application to submit Evidence in court; on the other hand, the High Court of Gujarat dismissed our petition to call Defence Witnesses! Where does one turn to when the very institutions established to dispatch justice, start acting as a tool to ensure justice is never delivered. The right to a fair and free trial, the right to defend one's self fully, are the basic constitutional, legal and human rights of any individual; however, in Modi's "New India", these rights are not afforded to the honest and upright. The subversion of the judiciary to silence Sanjiv Bhatt at any and every cost only further proves the undismissable threat Sanjiv's truth poses to this fascist and authoritarian regime.   This is Shweta Sanjiv Bhatt, In these last 5 years, I've often been asked if I still have any faith in the Judiciary ….. while the subversion witnessed has been shocking and saddening, I held on to a sliver of hope that there must still exist a handful few, who would bravely and honestly dispatch justice. However, today I stand questioning my misplaced belief. The Supreme Court yesterday slapped a 3 Lakh rupee fine on us for approaching the court, for what they called, "Many" times. Little did I know that in Modi's India, pursuing justice is a criminal offence … little did I know that there was a limit to the number of times one can approach a forum to seek justice! I naively thought that access to justice …. not limited justice, was a fundamental right guaranteed to all its citizens by the constitution of this country. For the last 5 years, every petition filed by us kept biting the dust in the registry, un-numbered for years at a time, only to be taken up by the court to be dismissed without it even being heard. So yes, we approach the Court in pursuit of Justice because justice has been, and continues to be systematically denied to us. Courts are meant to be a safe haven for an individual seeking justice, but when the very court abuses their power to penalise individuals for approaching them, where does one turn to get justice? Reprimanding, intimidating and penalising individuals for approaching the court, is a gross violation of their very fundamental human rights. But sadly, today we live in times where seeking justice is criminalised, reprimanded, and fined ... Where honesty no longer has a place in society and where subversion rules the day. We live in times where rapists, rioters and lynchers are not only entertained, but they walk scot free; whereas honest and brave individuals languish in jail waiting for one fair day in court. This regime continues to use their unbridled power to subvert systems …. to make a mockery of our once robust judicial system, all with the sole intention to intimidate, silence and break Sanjiv. To this regime and their stooges, I have only one thing to say: You may continue to play your unscrupulous games …. we will continue to fight despite all odds. We have honesty and truth by our side, you have all your powers to be. So beat us, break us, intimidate us, harass us .... we will keep fighting, till the castle of lies you've built on hate, fear and subversion come crumbling down. September 5, 2018—a day forever seared in our memory as the day Sanjiv Bhatt was unjustly torn from us. Today marks 6 years of his wrongful incarceration by a regime so terrified of his truth that it continues to resort to extreme, oppressive measures to crush his spirit and silence him, all because he dared to stand up against this dictatorial regime. Every day we continue to fight for justice and every day, this regime stoops to unimaginable lows in its effort to silence Sanjiv once and for all. A new dangerous chapter of this injustice unfolded on Sunday when in a shocking and appalling move, Sanjiv was secretly moved to another prison, a facility infamous for housing hardened criminals and terror convicts, many of whom Sanjiv himself was instrumental in putting behind bars. This isn’t just an ordinary prison transfer; it is a deliberate and calculated attempt to put Sanjiv's life and safety in grave danger and jeopardy, a grotesque act of vengeance by a regime that fears his unwavering resolve and unbreakable spirit. Despite every brutal attempt to crush him, Sanjiv has, and continues to stand tall—his spirit unbowed, his resolve unbroken. Sanjiv's fight is not just his own .... It is ours!!   This is Aakashi & Shantanu Bhatt, Dearest Dad, You turn 62 today … your eight birthday away from us, eight years of absence imposed not by fate, but by deliberate injustice. Eight years in which we as a family have been living parallel lives, us inside prison walls with you, and you living vicariously through us ... physically separated but all the while connected with one another in heart and spirit, fighting for each other's happiness, being each other’s, strength, suit of armour and never ending resilience. There are days when words feel inadequate, today is one of those days ... not because there is nothing to say, but because there is far too much. Too much loss carried in silence. Too much waiting that has stretched into injustice. Too much pain born from events that should never have been allowed to unfold. Too much that should never have happened to an upright officer who sacrificed his entire being to fight for justice for the victims of hate and violence. Over these years, we have watched the slow violence of judicial injustice unfold, not as a single event, but as a continuous process. Trumped up charges created not for truth, but to silence the voice of truth. Procedures stretched until fairness collapsed under their weight. Time itself weaponised against you and against us. Each delay, each denial, each indifference extracting its price, emotionally, mentally and physically. Despite it all, Dad, you have carried yourself through these years with a quiet dignity and strength that no verdict can diminish. As I sit to pen down this post, I pause to wonder when we, as a nation, lost sight of what truly matters ....When did appeasing the fragile ego of a megalomaniac fascist take precedence over safeguarding the very soul of our country? Today, brilliant minds, honest souls, and courageous hearts languish in prison ...They are mocked, humiliated, and silenced by a judiciary that was meant to protect them, meant to deliver justice, not serve as a handmaiden to power. And so, we must ask ourselves: where did we, as a people, go wrong? And more hauntingly — is it too late to turn back? It takes unimaginable courage, resilience, and faith to stand alone against an entire system designed to crush you. Day after day, year after year, these heroes endure indignity, isolation, and suffering — yet refuse to bow down! The nation owes them a debt beyond measure …. And yet, instead of standing with them, we leave them to fight alone. Today marks seven years of Sanjiv’s unlawful incarceration …. Seven years stolen from a man whose only “crime” was to speak truth to power. Seven years during which the machinery of injustice has worked tirelessly to break his spirit. Today, 5th September, marks 8 years since this regime came into our home and took our father from us, tearing our family apart under the guise of trumped up charges manufactured to silence his voice of truth. Eight years is an extraordinary amount of time to measure the life of a family, but there are moments when time becomes a strange and almost meaningless measure: the calendar insists that eight years have passed; however, our hearts and souls remain rooted in that September morning when our world was turned upside down and torn apart. When I look back at these past years, I often think about what our father chose to stand for, and the principles that have given meaning to everything that followed. From him, we learned that there are moments when an individual has to decide whether the safety of silence is worth the price of surrendering one’s conscience. From him we realised what it truly meant to stand in the path of power, when power had decided that it would rather not be questioned. Our father knew that the battle before him was profoundly unequal, uphill and lonesome; that institutions capable of protecting a society, when captured by power and stripped of their independence, become deadly instruments capable of destroying it. He was aware of the consequences of refusing to bend to the whims of this totalitarian regime and yet, he did, and still continues to fight against it with all his might! That is who Sanjiv Bhatt is … Not simply a name that appears in newspapers, nor the IPS officer who has become a symbol of something much larger, but our father, a man who possess the extraordinary strength and resilience to keep fighting a battle he knew would cost him everything, because he believed that some principles are more important than the preservation of one's own comfort, career or freedom. His sacrifices were never made for himself. He fought for people who had suffered hate and violence for the political ambition of one man. He raised his voice when remaining silent would have been infinitely easier. He placed his career, his reputation, his freedom and, ultimately, years of his life on the line because he believed that those who wield enormous power must also be held to an enormous standard of accountability. And for that, years of his life, his freedom have been cruelly ripped away from him. But there is something the passage of these eight years has made increasingly clear to me: the greatest victory of repression is not breaking the person it targets, but convincing everyone watching that there is nothing they can do! Because democracy does not disappear in a single dramatic moment. Its foundations are eroded far more quietly when institutions that were created to restrain power begin serving it; when the judiciary, which should be the last refuge of the powerless, fails to protect them; when due process becomes something that can be manipulated; when truth becomes inconvenient and therefore dangerous; and, perhaps most dangerous of all, when ordinary citizens decide that it is safer to look away, instead of raising their voices in the face of atrocities! That is how the pillars of a democracy begin to crumble. Not because people do not know what is happening, but because remaining wilfully oblivious is far “safer”. For eight long years, we have watched this unfold around our father. We have watched the extraordinary machinery of power descend upon one man, and we have watched institutions that were supposed to stand between the citizen and the State fail, again and again, to live up to the promise for which they exist. And still, our father continues to fight … That, more than anything else, is the measure of his courage, his legacy! Because courage is not measured by how loudly someone speaks when the world is listening, it is measured by what they are prepared to endure when the world has stopped listening! Our father has and continues to endure … He has endured the loss of his freedom, the destruction of his career, the years stolen from his family and the extraordinary weight of a system determined to break him. Yet somehow, after eight years, the thing this regime has been unable to imprison is the very thing that made him dangerous to them to begin with … his refusal to surrender his conscience! And perhaps that is why his fight matters now more than ever. For years, too many people learnt to lower their voices before they had even spoken. Questions were replaced by silent acceptance; outrage by apathy; courage by cowardice. An entire generation watched examples being made of exemplary individuals who dared to stand up against this regime and slowly began to believe that the safest way to survive was perhaps to remain silent …But silence comes with a terrible price! A country cannot remain free when its people are afraid to question power. Institutions cannot remain independent when citizens stop demanding accountability. And justice cannot prevail when the judiciary ceases to be a shield for the people and becomes a weapon against those who dare to dissent. Democracy can survive only when ordinary people are willing to defend its most fundamental promise, that no power is above accountability, and no citizen should have to surrender their freedom, dignity or voice to remain safe. And yet, perhaps that willingness to speak truth to power is beginning to return. Across the country, once again, people are raising their voices to question. They are beginning to look beyond the empty noise, beyond the propaganda, beyond the carefully constructed narratives that ask them to blindly accept rather than use their agency to examine. A generation that was taught to keep its head down is slowly beginning to lift it with courage and defiance! Perhaps that is how the endless night finally begins to give way to a new dawn, not through one spectacular event, but through millions of ordinary people deciding, each in their own way, that they will no longer surrender their capacity to question! And if there is one thing I have learnt from watching our father through all these years, it is that courage is contagious! One person standing up against an entire regime can look insignificant. One voice can appear almost absurdly small against the mammoth machinery of power. But history has a way of remembering those who refused to bend, and of showing how one person’s courage can awaken the courage of millions! Our father knew exactly what he was risking, and still chose courage over self-preservation, truth over silence, and conscience over fear. He did not stand up against this regime because he believed he was invincible; he stood because he believed some things were worth fighting for, whatever the cost! Today, doesn’t just mark 2,923 days of separation, it marks 8 years of our relentless fight for justice … I hope that everyone who reads this today will once again remember Sanjiv Bhatt ... Remember the courage it took to confront power when doing so came at an unimaginable personal and professional cost … Remember what happens when institutions created to protect citizens are weaponised against them … Remember that the independence of the judiciary, the integrity of institutions and the rule of law are not abstract constitutional phrases; they are the barriers that stand between an ordinary citizen and the unchecked power of the State. These have been six long years of resilience, longing, courage, and an unyielding fight for what is right. Birthdays in our home were always special. They weren’t just about cakes or gifts—they were about togetherness, laughter, and love. Our home would be filled with warmth and joy, with Dad’s voice booming as he celebrated with family and friends. But for the past six years, our home and hearts have been filled with a deafening silence, an emptiness that words cannot truly describe. Amidst this dark, uphill battle, there was a glimmer of hope—a fleeting moment of relief. On December 7, 2024, a sessions court acquitted our father, Mr Sanjiv Bhatt in one of the fabricated cases designed by this vindictive regime to silence him. It was a small but significant victory – it was a moment of vindication, a reminder that truth, no matter how suppressed, has a way of breaking through. Yet the war is far from over. The truth our father stands for still remains buried under the weight of lies and subversion, and his freedom still eludes him. Our father, Mr. Sanjiv Bhatt, still remains cruelly imprisoned by a regime bent on breaking him, breaking us, and breaking the very soul of justice in this country.
