Still very grateful for this special evening. Thank you to everyone at Arsenal for the warm farewell, the kind words and all the moments we shared over the years. What always made this club so special to me was the spirit within the group, enjoying working together every day and always trying to achieve something as a team. A special thank you as well to Myles Lewis-Skelly and Marcia Lewis for their personal speeches. Those words genuinely meant a lot to me and made the evening even more special.

Der deutsche Fußball hat mein Leben geprägt. 1996 werde ich den Moment nie vergessen, als Oliver Bierhoff Deutschland mit seinem Golden Goal zum Europameister schoss. Aus Begeisterung wurde Leidenschaft. 2002 fieberte ich als Fan beim WM-Finale mit. 2004 veränderte ein Anruf von Jürgen Klinsmann mein Leben – ich durfte Teil der Nationalmannschaft werden. Es folgten zehn unvergessliche Jahre, fünf große Turniere, jedes Mal mindestens das Halbfinale und 2014 schließlich der Weltmeistertitel. Wenn ich auf meinen Weg zurückblicke, sehe ich vor allem Kontinuität: TSV Pattensen, Hannover 96, Werder Bremen, Arsenal London – vier Vereine, die mich geprägt haben. Und zehn Jahre das Trikot der Nationalmannschaft mit Stolz getragen. Der deutsche Fußball ist und bleibt eine Herzensangelegenheit für Millionen Menschen. Er verbindet Generationen und schafft Momente, die für immer bleiben. Wenn ich nun die Chance bekomme, ab 2027 Verantwortung beim DFB zu übernehmen, dann erfüllt mich das mit großer Demut. Den deutschen Fußball und vor allem den Nachwuchs weiterzuentwickeln, ist eine riesige Aufgabe und genau das ist meine Motivation. Danke für das Vertrauen. Ich brenne darauf, gemeinsam mit vielen großartigen Menschen den deutschen Fußball in die Zukunft zu führen.
