Este es el famoso Castillo de San Felipe en Puerto Cabello, una edificación defensiva construida por España en el siglo XVIII. Muchas veces a lo largo de la historia nacional fue usada como prisión. En él padecieron encierro algunos de los mejores hombres de Venezuela. Allí estuvo preso Miranda, antes de partir a Cádiz, también en ese lugar encarcelaba Gómez a sus perseguidos políticos, sujetos, en medio de sofocante calor, por pesados grillos de hasta setenta kilos. Grillos que fueron lanzados al mar en febrero de 1936 en un acto emblemático que, se suponía, ponía fin para siempre a la persecución política en nuestro país.
