We have begun clearing the illegal shanties and market stalls built along the median of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. As we rebuild the Lagos-Badagry Expressway into a modern 10-lane highway, we cannot allow its median to become a market, a settlement or a site for illegal structures. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to trade, build makeshift shops or live on the median of a major highway. It is unsafe, illegal and unacceptable. We often compare Lagos with some of the world’s leading cities and ask why we cannot be like them. The truth is that those cities work because people respect public infrastructure and obey the rules. We cannot expect a world-class city while refusing to show the discipline needed to keep one. Dumping waste indiscriminately or building illegal structures along our highways will not move us forward. If we want a cleaner, safer and more organised Lagos, discipline and personal responsibility must become part of our everyday culture. That is how we build a city we can all be proud of.

Dear Lagosians, I have directed an immediate scale-up of waste evacuation across Lagos following the recent build-up of refuse in some parts of our state. LAWMA, LASEPA, and the Ministry of Environment are currently working around the clock. We have deployed extra trucks and personnel to clear the backlogs across all affected neighbourhoods. You should already see progress on the streets and we will not stop until our city is completely clean again. Lagos generates over 13,000 tons of waste every single day. Managing this requires a massive effort but our determination to fix the current challenge is absolute. As we continue this cleanup, I ask for your partnership. Please bag your waste properly and avoid dumping refuse in drainage channels or on the roads. We are fully on top of this situation. Let us work together to keep Lagos clean and safe for everyone.

Today, I commissioned the Lagos Fresh Food Hub in Pen Cinema, Agege, a modern facility designed to make it easier and more efficient to move food from farmers and suppliers to communities across Lagos. Built on 7,000 square metres, the hub provides space for hundreds of traders, dry and cold storage facilities, a dedicated seafood section, parking and EV charging points. More importantly, it brings farmers, traders, retailers, institutional buyers and consumers together in a more organised food distribution system. Agege is one of the middle-level hubs in our wider food distribution network, supplied by the Central Food Security and Logistics Hub at Ketu-Ereyun. Together with hubs like Mushin, we are bringing food distribution closer to the people and strengthening food security across Lagos.
