IIT Madras engagement report
@iitmadras - 207K followers on X
Measured over 45 original posts from a 30-day window, last computed on October 6, 2026.
Engagement
A typical post picks up 32 interactions against 207K followers, an engagement rate of 0.015%. Measured over 45 original posts, its engagement rate beats 29% of 20,444 tracked accounts of a similar size, which puts it in the middle of its size range rather than at either end. Posts are seen about 3.3K times each, and 0.963% of those impressions turn into an interaction. That is about 1.60% of the follower count, which is the gap between an audience on paper and an audience in a timeline. Posting runs at about 2.5 posts a day over the last 30 days, with activity on almost every day in the window. Most posts go out around 12:00 UTC, and Tuesday is the busiest day of the week. Of the 45 posts sampled, 100% carry an image or video and 62% link out. The account's strongest tracked post pulled 1.2K interactions, about 37x its own typical post. Recurring topics include #pmvidyalaxmi, #artificialintelligence, #deeptech.

Compared with accounts its own size
IIT Madras's engagement rate beats 29% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (20,444 accounts, accounts of similar size (decile 9 of 10)). A percentile is spread evenly by construction, so 50 really is the middle of that group and 90 really is its top tenth.
On engagement per impression rather than per follower it beats 42% of the same group. When those two numbers disagree, the gap is about how far its posts travel rather than how people react to them.
Where this sits in the catalog
At 0.015%, IIT Madras sits above the 10th percentile of the 205,582 accounts in this comparison. That places it in the bottom 25% band, which runs below 0.024%.
Show the percentile table
| Percentile | Engagement rate |

Formats this account uses
Its own posting mix on the left, and what each of those formats does across every account we track on the right. Only formats where the effect clears our publish test appear here, so an empty row is a format we could not measure rather than one that does nothing.
| Format | This account | Catalog effect | 95% interval | Accounts behind it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Image or video | 100% of posts | +111% | +108% to +115% | 34K |
| Outbound link | 62% of posts | -41% | -42% to -40% | 32K |
| Typical length | - | +15% | +14% to +16% | 32K |
- 100% of this account's sampled posts carry an image or video. Across the catalog, posts with an image or video run 111% above the same accounts' other posts.
- 62% of its posts carry a link off X. Across the catalog, posts with an outbound link run 41% below the same accounts' other posts, so a large share of this account's output sits in the weakest bucket we measure.
- Its average post runs 1031 characters, which falls in the over 280 characters band. Across the catalog, posts over 280 characters run 15% above the same accounts' other posts.
These are catalog-wide differences applied to this account's own posting mix, not a measurement of how each format performs for this account specifically. We keep one median per account, not one per format per account, so the second thing is not something this data can tell you.

What does the university of the future look like? According to Mr Sanjeev Sanyal, member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India, IIT Madras offers a glimpse. Speaking on the ANI Podcast with Ms Smita Prakash, he described IIT Madras as “the most interesting intellectual cluster in India right now,” pointing to its vibrant ecosystem of research, deep-tech innovation and entrepreneurship. From brain-mapping and Agnikul’s space rockets to e-planes, drone taxis and indigenous marine-engine development, the Institute is creating an environment where ideas move from research to real-world applications. Mr Sanyal also highlighted a key strength: learning beyond the classroom. With laboratories, prototyping facilities, research projects and startups on campus, students gain experience by building, testing and innovating. He suggested that universities across India could draw from this model by placing greater emphasis on experiential learning, research, industry collaboration, and entrepreneurship. 🎥 Watch the full conversation: https://t.co/EKUjuUY2jt @sanjeevsanyal @iitmadras @smitaprakash @ANI #IITMadras #Innovation #HigherEducation #ExperientialLearning #SanjeevSanyal #ANI

🚗 What if your car seat could sense when you’re getting too tired to drive? As reported by @IndiaToday, IIT Madras researchers, led by Prof. Venkatesh Balasubramanian's Rehabilitation Bioengineering Group, have developed IntelliSeat—a smart driver’s seat that detects fatigue through changes in posture and sitting behaviour. Sensors embedded in the seat monitor subtle physical changes without wearables, electrodes or wires. As fatigue increases, IntelliSeat responds with escalating alerts—a dashboard light, sound and vibration—while also enabling fleet operators to receive alerts. Designed to work independently of a vehicle’s existing systems, the technology can potentially be integrated into trucks and buses already on the road, offering a practical approach to improving driver safety. By transforming an everyday seat into an intelligent safety system, IntelliSeat could help detect fatigue earlier, encourage timely rest, and contribute to safer journeys on India’s roads. Dreams don’t always follow an easy path — but determination can take you where you aspire to be. As reported in The Times of India, 17-year-old J Santhosh, who has 90% spinal muscular disability and cerebral palsy since birth, has secured admission to IIT Madras’ four-year BS programme in Data Science and Applications. After missing his school’s IIT Madras visit last year, Santhosh has now earned his place at the institute after clearing the qualifiers on his second attempt. The son of an auto driver, he discovered the programme through NGO TN Volunteers and chose a course that could largely be pursued from home. Through the ‘IIT-M for All’ initiative, he will receive in-person support from TN Volunteers during the initial stages, including AI training, while they also bear his first-year tuition expenses. His goal? To complete his degree and build a career in the IT sector. Read his story: https://t.co/J1go2LKovL. @iitmadras @iitm_bs @iitmforall #IITMadras #BreakingBarriers #DreamBig

As reported by @Gunjans_sharma , @PTI_News, researchers at @iitmadras have patented a chemical-free antibacterial surface technology that can physically destroy harmful bacteria without harming human cells. Developed by Prof. Parasuraman Swaminathan and researcher Abishek Kumar, the technology uses nanoscale “nanograss” structures on flexible silicone surfaces. Unlike conventional antimicrobial approaches, these structures mechanically rupture bacterial cell walls on contact. The surfaces achieved over 68% biofilm inhibition across three bacterial species, while fibroblast studies showed up to 91% cell viability. Using advanced plasma processing and computational modelling, the researchers explored how the nanostructures enable bacterial destruction. The innovation could support applications in medical implants, catheters, wound care, hospital equipment and high-touch surfaces, offering a promising approach to tackling antimicrobial resistance. Reading these numbers
- What is IIT Madras's engagement rate on X?
- IIT Madras (@iitmadras) has an engagement rate of 0.015%, based on the median interactions across 45 original posts from the last 30 days against 207,258 followers. Replies, reposts and quote-posts of other people are excluded from that sample.
- Is that a good engagement rate?
- At 0.015%, IIT Madras sits above the 10th percentile of the 205,582 accounts in this comparison. Those comparison accounts are all large ones, because our scanning cadence is weighted towards big accounts, so this is a ranking among peers of similar scale rather than a ranking across X.
- Does @iitmadras have real engagement?
- Its engagement rate beats 29% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (20,444 accounts), which puts it in the middle of its size range group. Ranking inside a size band matters because engagement rate falls as accounts grow, so a raw rate would mostly re-measure the follower count. It is a starting point for a look at follower quality, not a verdict on it.
- When does @iitmadras post?
- Most posts go out around 12:00 UTC, and Tuesday is its busiest day, at roughly 2.5 posts per day across the measured window.
