Early reading. We have captured 6 original posts for this account, below the 8 we require before treating a median as settled. The numbers above describe what we have seen so far, not a finished profile of the account.

A typical post picks up 4.6K interactions against 256K followers, an engagement rate of 1.80%. Posts are seen about 136K times each, and 3.35% of those impressions turn into an interaction. That is about 53.1% of the follower count, which is the gap between an audience on paper and an audience in a timeline. Posting runs at about 0.33 posts a day over the last 30 days, though only 20% of days saw any activity at all. Most posts go out around 17:00 UTC, and Friday is the busiest day of the week. Of the 6 posts sampled, 50% carry an image or video and 17% link out. The account's strongest tracked post pulled 44K interactions, about 9.6x its own typical post. Only 6 original posts have been captured so far, fewer than the 8 posts we want behind a median before treating it as settled. Read the figures above as an early measurement of this account, not as a finished profile of it.

This account posts most often around 17:00 UTC, and Friday is its busiest day of the week. The bars below are the catalog-wide pattern, with this account's own busiest slot marked. They do not show how this account performs at each hour: we keep one aggregate per account, not one per hour, so that measurement does not exist in our data.

Formats this account uses

Its own posting mix on the left, and what each of those formats does across every account we track on the right. Only formats where the effect clears our publish test appear here, so an empty row is a format we could not measure rather than one that does nothing.

  • 17% of its posts carry a link off X. Across the catalog, posts with an outbound link run 41% below the same accounts' other posts.
  • Its average post runs 299 characters, which falls in the over 280 characters band. Across the catalog, posts over 280 characters run 15% above the same accounts' other posts.

These are catalog-wide differences applied to this account's own posting mix, not a measurement of how each format performs for this account specifically. We keep one median per account, not one per format per account, so the second thing is not something this data can tell you.

If you messaged or rang me here in the last seven weeks but got no reply, I didn’t ignore you. I have been away engaging in the activity that makes me feel the most alive: undercover investigating an impossible story, this time physically draining, mentally tortuous, away from civilisation and without my gadgets. I will be taking two more months off social media — to consult a physician, get examined by a physiotherapist, possibly speak to a therapist, then get on with writing what is unquestionably my biggest story ever. See you back online sometime in September.🙏🏾

I am looking for ‘Aminu from Yobe State’, my ‘21st reason to stay alive’, the stranger who saved me in the deserts of Libya between al Gatrun and Sabha on the night of Wednesday June 24. He vanished into the anonymity of darkness before I could even say ‘thank you’. If you know an Aminu who migrated to Libya through the backdoor in the first half of this year, and he can confirm the encounter I narrated in Part III of @fijnigeria’s migrant investigation, please connect me to him. I am willing to activate his emergency evacuation from Libya (if it interests him), and find him a job in Nigeria. One good turn, they say…

On the evening of Friday November 29, the third day of my detention by the army at the 6 Div Port Harcourt, an officer reached out to the department holding me to say two lawyers were looking for me. It was my third straight day without communication with the outside world, so I was unaware anyone would come calling. I hadn’t had any contact with any Port Harcourt lawyers. Therefore, I disowned them. Hours later, when the army finally granted me access to my phone in what was the first inkling of my imminent freedom, I rang someone very briefly (won’t tell you who that was), then I rang my Lagos-based lawyer Abimbola Ojenike. Surprisingly, those two Port Harcourt lawyers were from him. Those lawyers had arrived at the 6 Div, which, by the way, is far from the city centre, before the army’s decision to set me free. For context, news of my arrest became public late morning; the lawyers were at the 6 Div early afternoon. With the benefit of hindsight, that could only have been Abimbola Ojenike. If you do the kind of work that I do, you become friends with Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs). And to fight them off, you need, among others, a brilliant lawyer who understands your work, values it, is personally invested, is a warrior and, of the highest significance, is incorruptible. In Ojenike, I have all that and more. When IBD Dende, who had sued me earlier in the year, for example, sought to withdraw the case in October, my instant feeling was ‘no way’. If you sue me, we cannot abandon it halfway; we must see it to the end. My lawyer needed no convincing; he thought exactly as I did. Outside all that is the unquantifiable time he invests in the non-legal backend of my journalism, my safety and our work at @fijnigeria — the things unfit for public consumption. A million and one individuals and organisations have supported my work this year, and for that they have my gratitude. But my Man of the Year is unrivalled: @abimbolaojenike, managing partner @SlingstoneLaw and co-founder @TheDestinyTrust. Thank you, sir, for always ‘drinking panadol on my headache’!
