Last night, Russia launched a massive combined strike against Ukraine. During the attack, Polish airspace was also violated, underlining once again that Russia’s aggression is a threat to the security of Europe as a whole. My thoughts are with the victims of these attacks. The European Union stands in full solidarity with the Ukrainian and Polish authorities working tirelessly to protect and defend their citizens. We are stepping up our support to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence, including anti-missile and anti-drone capabilities. Europe will continue to stand united in the face of this aggression.

Excellent talk with @ZelenskyyUa after a full day of meetings in Kyiv and a touching and inspiring commemoration of Ukraine’s independence. We discussed our continued support for Ukraine and the way forward. The EU has stood with Ukraine since the very first day of Russia’s war of aggression, and we will continue to stand by Ukraine’s side. Ukraine can count on us. I commended the work that is being done to fulfil the accession reform criteria, under very challenging circumstances, and encouraged Ukraine to continue on that path. EU membership is the best way to ensure strong, democratic and independent institutions in Ukraine.
