JUST IN: #Myanmar's military-dominated parliament on Friday elected regime leader Min Aung Hlaing as the country's 11th president, completing a choreographed transition to nominally civilian rule five years after the armed forces seized power. "This result is a foregone conclusion and the culmination of Min Aung Hlaing's personal dream," noted Khin Zaw Win, director of the Tampadipa Institute, a Myanmar research group. He argued that the past five years have cost 90,000 lives according to the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project, an independent organization. #MYANMAR: Detained leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s famous pet dog, Taichito, passed away on Sunday at age 16. Gifted by her son Kim Aris in 2010, Taichito was her constant companion. He died at her Yangon home, where her staff cared for him, while Suu Kyi remains held incommunicado in detention. The international community continues to demand her immediate release. #AungSanSuuKyi
