Early reading. We have captured 1 original post for this account, below the 8 we require before treating a median as settled. The numbers above describe what we have seen so far, not a finished profile of the account.

A typical post picks up 11 interactions against 2.2M followers, an engagement rate of 0.001%. Posts are seen about 3.2K times each, and 0.347% of those impressions turn into an interaction. That is about 0.147% of the follower count, which is the gap between an audience on paper and an audience in a timeline. Posting runs at about 0.07 posts a day over the last 30 days, though only 3% of days saw any activity at all. Most posts go out around 19:00 UTC, and Thursday is the busiest day of the week. Of the 1 posts sampled, 100% carry an image or video, 100% are part of a thread and 100% link out. The account's strongest tracked post pulled 27K interactions, about 2482x its own typical post. Recurring topics include #onlyyou, #smokeybear82. Only 1 original post have been captured so far, fewer than the 8 posts we want behind a median before treating it as settled. Read the figures above as an early measurement of this account, not as a finished profile of it.

Engagement rate as a share of followers, across the 156,396 accounts we have scanned enough to measure. The axis is logarithmic, because the top and bottom of this population are about 26,062 times apart and a linear axis would flatten everything below the median into a single point.

Posting timing

This account posts most often around 19:00 UTC, and Thursday is its busiest day of the week. The bars below are the catalog-wide pattern, with this account's own busiest slot marked. They do not show how this account performs at each hour: we keep one aggregate per account, not one per hour, so that measurement does not exist in our data.

Formats this account uses

Its own posting mix on the left, and what each of those formats does across every account we track on the right. Only formats where the effect clears our publish test appear here, so an empty row is a format we could not measure rather than one that does nothing.

  • 100% of this account's sampled posts carry an image or video. Across the catalog, posts with an image or video run 111% above the same accounts' other posts.
  • 100% of its posts carry a link off X. Across the catalog, posts with an outbound link run 41% below the same accounts' other posts, so a large share of this account's output sits in the weakest bucket we measure.
  • Its average post runs 345 characters, which falls in the over 280 characters band. Across the catalog, posts over 280 characters run 15% above the same accounts' other posts.

These are catalog-wide differences applied to this account's own posting mix, not a measurement of how each format performs for this account specifically. We keep one median per account, not one per format per account, so the second thing is not something this data can tell you.

Going into the severe weather and hurricane season, this cannot be good. The Commerce Department has laid off hundreds of NOAA employees, many with specialized skills who work at one of the world's top climate science and weather forecasting agencies. Why it matters: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is responsible for providing weather watches and warnings, monitoring and studying Earth's climate, as well as operating weather satellites and protecting marine life. The layoffs of probationary employees that began Thursday hit soon after cuts at the behest of Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency occurred at other climate and environment agencies. The big picture: NOAA's missions require staff to work around the clock to monitor dangerous weather, earthquakes that could cause tsunamis, and other hazards. In recent weeks, NOAA's National Weather Service has issued warnings for deadly flooding in Kentucky, heavy snow, frigid temperatures and other hazards across the country. While NOAA had pushed for public safety exemptions from the layoffs for NWS meteorologists, not all were granted. A congressional aide reported hearing that "some" at NWS were spared but "not many."

I never thought I’d be in this position, but I was unexpectedly terminated from my job as an NWS meteorologist. This isn’t just about me—this impacts the future of weather forecasting. #NWS #NOAA https://t.co/DWKmz4IiWp

Unfortunately I can confirm the rumors going around today since I received "the email"...I don't want to make any comments other than I am exploring legal options in a couple of avenues. I will probably be deactivating this account for a variety of reasons soon. I always advocate contacting representatives about the importance of the NWS/NOAA mission.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) today begun the mass firing of hundreds of federal employees under the agency and its several child agencies, including the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the National Weather Service (NWS), which has already been suffering from low-staffing over the last few years. The cuts are expected to effect up to 1,830 of NOAA’s 11,000 staff across the United States, roughly 10% of the agencies employees; with a push by NOAA to obtain a “public safety exemption” for meteorologists and forecasters with the NWS being largely denied. It is not currently known if these cuts will include those in the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps, one of the eight federal uniformed services of the United States.
