Today, Gaza held its largest mass funeral ever - over 112 bodies that were only recently recovered after months of being under rubble were laid to rest. And today, Abdul Rahman El-Syed won a significant victory in Michigan - a victory that has already sent shock waves through the Democratic and Republican parties, and is reshaping conversations at every level of American politics. These two news items are not unrelated. AIPAC and its allies spent a staggering $65 million on Abdul's opponent, precisely because they wanted to continue using our taxes, our weapons, and our veto power to finance their genocide against Palestinian families. Let that sink in: AIPAC spent $65 million to secure one nomination within the Democratic party for one potential Senate position. And ...they lost. For countless voters, this campaign became about more than a single candidate. The results today, after the last two years of brutal genocide in Gaza, and after decades of their racist Apartheid rule, put beyond doubt the reality that Isr@ael and its allies have simply lost any and all credibility in the eyes of average, hard-working, tax-paying Americans. Today's outcome reflects a surging demand among many Americans for a foreign policy that is shaped first and foremost by the interests, values, and conscience of the American people. It became a statement that no lobbying effort—foreign or domestic—should outweigh the voice of ordinary citizens, and no aid should ever be given to kill innocent civilians. The support of a candidate by AIPAC is now, finally, deemed by large segments of our country a liability, not an asset. The dignity, courage, and perseverance of the people of Gaza in the face of occupation, massacres, and war have shaken the foundations of an entrenched establishment whose moral authority has steadily eroded. We look forward to a future defined by justice, not complicity - a future in which our country does not bankroll foreign wars and atrocities, but rather offers better services to its own people.

It was surreal standing in front of the grave of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyya during my visit to Damascus last month. His grave is situated in a small garden within a medical school campus - this used to be the site of a larger cemetery, but only these graves have been preserved. Next to him are buried his student Ibn Kathir, and Ibn al-Ṣalāḥ. Damascus is a city whose history is unparalleled. The sheer quantity of ancient sites, historical monuments, and graves of the Companions and scholars, is something that cannot be found anywhere else.

MEMRI, the propaganda arm of Isra@el, has been quite active in taking snippets from my lectures and portraying me as some kind of stealth radical cleric. Nothing new. Its founder spent two decades in Israeli military intelligence and later served as a counterterrorism adviser to two Israeli prime ministers (imagine how much innocent blood he has on his hands?). But their latest attempt to smear me is genuinely confusing. They have my picture plastered on their website, and quote me as saying in a recent sermon: “We want our country to be better...we love our country. And because we love our country, we want it to be ethical, we want it to be noble, we don't want it to be involved in genocide!” And...this is somehow supposed to expose me as some kind of evil “Islamist jihadist”?! Or has MEMRI had a change of heart and decided to become my PR agency? 😉 Truly, these people are so blinded by their hate that they can no longer distinguish evil from good; even the most basic demands of human decency are portrayed as something sinister.
