This morning, I joined H.E. @tomio_cz, Speaker of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, for gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It's always exciting to enjoy the Pearl of Africa. I have been gorilla tracking several times, but the experience always feels new and exciting. Gorillas are our cousins, and we learn a lot from them. Every day, they remind us of the importance of protecting nature because they are endangered. If we don't protect them, they may one day become extinct. To celebrate Rt. Hon. Tomio's visit to Uganda, he named a baby gorilla "Tomio," the English equivalent of his name, Thomas, which is my name as well. His visit marks the strengthening of a good relationship between our two countries. It is also a vote of confidence in our country as a secure and safe place to visit despite some countries delaying to remove Ebola travel restrictions. We will work together to promote ties, particularly in tourism. H.E. Tomio Okamura has assured us that he will be our ambassador back home. I thank our Ambassador to Germany, Amb. Stephen Mubiru, who coordinated this visit. I would like to urge Ugandans to explore our country. Before going abroad, first explore your own country. I promise, you won't find a better experience.

Last evening, we welcomed the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, at Rwakitandara Playground in Ruhinda North, Mitooma District for an anti-corruption baraza. Residents turned up in large numbers, which demonstrates their willingness to be part of the crusade against corruption and the misuse of public resources in local service delivery. This is good because the fight against corruption requires collective vigilance and the active participation of citizens. I explained that several individuals in the district have already been arrested in connection with the misuse of Parish Development Model (PDM) funds. We have been working hard to streamline the process and weed out the wrong elements that extort money from our people. One of the challenges we need to address is the structure of local government recruitment. For example, when a district engineer is recruited by the District Service Commission, there is a risk that he or she may collude with district officials to misappropriate resources that would otherwise benefit the community. I suggest that the recruitment of such senior technical officers should instead be handled by the Public Service Commission so that they can be transferable. I thank Hon. Balaam Barugahara for focusing his energy on the fight against corruption and for taking the message of accountability and service delivery directly to the people. We promised him support anytime he needs us. I urge all leaders to work with him as his visits help to expose the rot they might not be privy to.

We had an exciting evening yesterday at Sheema Playground as we enjoyed the final of the Ankole Cup between Ibanda and Bushenyi. Congratulations to Ibanda on winning the cup. Congratulations to Bushenyi for making it to the final. It was a thrilling evening that brought people together through the love of sport. Sports are important for our health, talent development, and social bonding. We need more competitions like @Ankolecup to bring our communities together and provide opportunities for young people to showcase their talent. I pledged, on behalf of the Ankole MPs, that we will lobby for the construction of a standard football stadium in Ankole to support sports development. I thank @mkainerugaba for the generous contribution that spiced up the finals. It was timely. I also appreciate my brother @BalaamBarugahar, our @PLUsecretariat General Secretary, @HonTwallafadil, all other senior PLU leaders, and the MPs from Ankole especially our hosts @HonKateshD and @AdrineKats who joined us for the evening. Well done to @MushabeOsborn and your team for the excellent organization. Count on us for the 2027 edition.
