A typical post picks up 287 interactions against 2.3M followers, an engagement rate of 0.013%. Measured over 11 original posts, its engagement rate beats 46% of 1,003 tracked accounts of a similar size, which puts it in the middle of its size range rather than at either end. Posts are seen about 53K times each, and 0.542% of those impressions turn into an interaction. That is about 2.35% of the follower count, which is the gap between an audience on paper and an audience in a timeline. Posting runs at about 0.63 post a day over the last 30 days, though only 33% of days saw any activity at all. Most posts go out around 08:00 UTC, and Monday is the busiest day of the week. Of the 11 posts sampled, 91% carry an image or video, 9% are part of a thread and 45% link out. The account's strongest tracked post pulled 7.2K interactions, about 25x its own typical post.

Compared with accounts its own size

TfL's engagement rate beats 46% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (1,003 accounts, accounts of similar size (decile 8 of 10)). A percentile is spread evenly by construction, so 50 really is the middle of that group and 90 really is its top tenth.

On engagement per impression rather than per follower it beats 38% of the same group. When those two numbers disagree, the gap is about how far its posts travel rather than how people react to them.

Where this sits in the catalog

At 0.013%, TfL sits above the 25th percentile of the 10,151 accounts in this comparison. That places it in the below the median band, which runs 0.007% to 0.047%.

Engagement rate as a share of followers, across the 10,151 accounts we have scanned enough to measure. The axis is logarithmic, because the top and bottom of this population are about 450,564 times apart and a linear axis would flatten everything below the median into a single point.

Posting timing

This account posts most often around 08:00 UTC, and Monday is its busiest day of the week. The bars below are the catalog-wide pattern, with this account's own busiest slot marked. They do not show how this account performs at each hour: we keep one aggregate per account, not one per hour, so that measurement does not exist in our data.

Formats this account uses

Its own posting mix on the left, and what each of those formats does across every account we track on the right. Only formats where the effect clears our publish test appear here, so an empty row is a format we could not measure rather than one that does nothing.

This account's posting mix compared with catalog-wide effects
FormatThis accountCatalog effect95% intervalAccounts behind it

Outbound link45% of posts-49%-50% to -47%6.1K
Typical length-+13%+10% to +15%6.4K
  • 91% of this account's sampled posts carry an image or video. Across the catalog, posts with an image or video run 79% above the same accounts' other posts.
  • 45% of its posts carry a link off X. Across the catalog, posts with an outbound link run 49% below the same accounts' other posts, so a large share of this account's output sits in the weakest bucket we measure.
  • Its average post runs 500 characters, which falls in the over 280 characters band. Across the catalog, posts over 280 characters run 13% above the same accounts' other posts.

These are catalog-wide differences applied to this account's own posting mix, not a measurement of how each format performs for this account specifically. We keep one median per account, not one per format per account, so the second thing is not something this data can tell you.

We were honoured to visit Tokyo Metro for the unveiling of a TfL-inspired roundel at Ueno Station. 🇯🇵🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Our Commissioner, Andy Lord, and the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, joined Akihiro Kosaka, President of Tokyo Metro, to unveil the roundel. The moment celebrated a long connection between TfL and Tokyo Metro, which dates back to Noritsugu Hayakawa's visit to London more than a century ago. His experience of London’s transport network helped inspire the development of Tokyo's metro system. Andy Lord said: "Our iconic roundel is recognised around the world and is a symbol of safety and service that all Londoners trust. We look forward to visitors to Ueno subway station being able to see it permanently from next year as both metros continue to serve the millions of people who rely on them each day." We're proud that the London Underground is considered the origin of the Japanese subway and look forward to celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2027. *Photo provided by Tokyo Metro

I’m issuing a high air pollution alert for London on Monday 22 June. Hot, sunny weather and pollution from continental Europe are expected to raise ozone levels. Please help protect yourself and others, especially vulnerable people, by reducing car journeys and avoiding engine idling.

Today, we mark the 21st anniversary of the 7/7 attacks, remembering the 52 people who were killed and the many more who were injured. 🥀 We also remember the courage and solidarity shown by TfL colleagues, the emergency services and members of the public on that tragic day. Our thoughts are with the families, friends and loved ones of those who were affected.

A moment of kindness can make all the difference. 💙 Recently at Stratford station, Transport Support Enforcement Officers Patrick Nestori, Agit Zengin and Daniel Ogudu were alerted by station staff to a vulnerable customer attempting to travel but was clearly unwell and in need of support. The officers quickly stepped in, taking the time to calmly engage with him, build trust and ensure he felt safe. It became clear he was confused, distressed and struggling to breathe, so the team acted fast to help him safely into a recovery position while contacting the London Ambulance Service. They stayed by his side throughout, offering reassurance and support until paramedics arrived and took him to hospital for further care. A huge thank you to Patrick, Agit and Daniel for their compassion, professionalism and quick thinking. Their actions are a powerful reminder of the care and support our colleagues provide to vulnerable customers across the network every day. #TfLCares #CustomerService #LondonTransport

Reading these numbers

What is TfL's engagement rate on X?
TfL (@TfL) has an engagement rate of 0.013%, based on the median interactions across 11 original posts from the last 30 days against 2,253,619 followers. Replies, reposts and quote-posts of other people are excluded from that sample.
Is that a good engagement rate?
At 0.013%, TfL sits above the 25th percentile of the 10,151 accounts in this comparison. Those comparison accounts are all large ones, because our scanning cadence is weighted towards big accounts, so this is a ranking among peers of similar scale rather than a ranking across X.
Does @TfL have real engagement?
Its engagement rate beats 46% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (1,003 accounts), which puts it in the middle of its size range group. Ranking inside a size band matters because engagement rate falls as accounts grow, so a raw rate would mostly re-measure the follower count. It is a starting point for a look at follower quality, not a verdict on it.
When does @TfL post?
Most posts go out around 08:00 UTC, and Monday is its busiest day, at roughly 0.63 posts per day across the measured window.
