Biyolojik mantık olarak tavukların yumurtlama süreci aslında onların bir tür “regl (adet)” döngüsüdür. Tabii ki memeli hayvanlar veya insanlar gibi kanamalı bir süreç yaşamazlar ama işleyiş olarak birebir aynı hormonal döngüden geçerler. Dişi tavuk, vücudunda olgunlaşan yumurta hücresini her gün veya iki günde bir dışarı atar. Bizim marketten alıp yediğimiz yumurtalar aslında tavuğun döllenmemiş, yani bebeğe dönüşmeyecek olan yumurta hücresidir. İnsanlarda döllenme gerçekleşmediğinde rahim duvarı dökülür ve bu durum kanamayla (regl) dışarı atılır. Tavuklar ise memeli olmadıkları için bir rahim duvarına sahip değildir. Onlar döllenmemiş yumurta hücresini kalın bir kabukla sarıp doğrudan dışarı bırakırlar. Yani bir tavuğun yumurtlaması, insanlardaki regl döngüsünün kuşlardaki karşılığıdır. Her gün yediğimiz yumurtalar, aslında tavuğun “regl” döneminin bir ürünüdür. Bilim ne güzel şey!

Başkalarını aşağılayıp linç etmekten keyif alan insanlar, çoğu zaman kendi eksikliklerini ve komplekslerini dışa vururlar. Bilge insanlar ise farklı fikirlere, tartışmaya ve yeni bilgiler ışığında düşüncelerini geliştirmeye her zaman açıktır. Zamanında aşılarla ilgili kurduğum birkaç cümle üzerinden aynı linç kültürünü sürdürenler, geçmişte televizyonlarda “sigara sağlığa faydalıdır” diyebilen doktorları da sorgulamayan anlayışın bir uzantısı gibi davranıyor. Ben ise birkaç makale okuyup kesin hükümler vermek yerine, yaşam biçimime ve hassasiyetlerime yakın; yaşam hakkına saygılı, vegan bilim insanlarının görüşlerini ve bilimsel çalışmaları da dikkate almayı tercih ediyorum.
