A typical post picks up 138 interactions against 1.2M followers, an engagement rate of 0.012%. Measured over 10 original posts, its engagement rate beats 37% of 3,829 tracked accounts of a similar size, which puts it in the middle of its size range rather than at either end. Posts are seen about 10K times each, and 1.38% of those impressions turn into an interaction. That is about 0.866% of the follower count, which is the gap between an audience on paper and an audience in a timeline. Posting runs at about 0.63 post a day over the last 30 days, though only 40% of days saw any activity at all. Most posts go out around 13:00 UTC, and Thursday is the busiest day of the week. Of the 10 posts sampled, 100% carry an image or video, 20% are part of a thread and 50% link out. The account's strongest tracked post pulled 514 interactions, about 3.7x its own typical post.

Compared with accounts its own size

U.S. Surgeon General's engagement rate beats 37% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (3,829 accounts, accounts of similar size (decile 9 of 10)). A percentile is spread evenly by construction, so 50 really is the middle of that group and 90 really is its top tenth.

On engagement per impression rather than per follower it beats 60% of the same group. When those two numbers disagree, the gap is about how far its posts travel rather than how people react to them.

Where this sits in the catalog

At 0.012%, U.S. Surgeon General sits above the 10th percentile of the 37,214 accounts in this comparison. That places it in the bottom 25% band, which runs below 0.012%.

Posting timing

This account posts most often around 13:00 UTC, and Thursday is its busiest day of the week. The bars below are the catalog-wide pattern, with this account's own busiest slot marked. They do not show how this account performs at each hour: we keep one aggregate per account, not one per hour, so that measurement does not exist in our data.

Yesterday, Dr. Stephanie Haridopolos, Director of National Health Communications for the Office of the Surgeon General, delivered remarks at the Great American State Fair on one of the most pressing challenges facing young people today: harmful screen use. She encouraged children and families across America to get off screens, get outdoors, and Live Real Life. Thank you, @Freedom250, for providing a stage to help Make America Healthy Again 🇺🇸

Sixty percent of mothers do not breastfeed for as long as they intend. Lactation and latching difficulties, concerns about infant nutrition, an early return to work, and limited support can make breastfeeding difficult to start and even harder to continue. Mothers need knowledgeable care, adequate leave, workplace protections, and practical support at home to make breastfeeding possible. This World Breastfeeding Week, we recognize the barriers mothers face and our shared responsibility to remove them.

Welcome to World Breastfeeding Week, observed August 1–7 and first celebrated in 1992. The Office of the Surgeon General has long recognized breastfeeding as a public health priority. Breastfeeding offers important health benefits for both babies and mothers and can bring moments of closeness and joy. But it also asks a great deal of mothers. Knowledgeable care, protected time, workplace flexibility, and support at home can reduce those demands. This week, as we celebrate breastfeeding, we will highlight its health benefits, acknowledge the effort it requires from mothers, and call attention to the support we owe them.

As World Breastfeeding Week comes to a close, we reflect on the Office of the Surgeon General’s long history of supporting breastfeeding. In 1984, the Surgeon General convened a national workshop on breastfeeding and human lactation. In 2011, the Office issued The Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding, calling on health care systems, employers, communities, families, and policymakers to help remove the barriers mothers face. The commitment to breastfeeding remains strong, we will continue to help more mothers breastfeed for as long as they intend and help give more babies the healthiest possible start in life.

Reading these numbers

What is U.S. Surgeon General's engagement rate on X?
U.S. Surgeon General (@Surgeon_General) has an engagement rate of 0.012%, based on the median interactions across 10 original posts from the last 30 days against 1,161,776 followers. Replies, reposts and quote-posts of other people are excluded from that sample.
Is that a good engagement rate?
At 0.012%, U.S. Surgeon General sits above the 10th percentile of the 37,214 accounts in this comparison. Those comparison accounts are all large ones, because our scanning cadence is weighted towards big accounts, so this is a ranking among peers of similar scale rather than a ranking across X.
Does @Surgeon_General have real engagement?
Its engagement rate beats 37% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (3,829 accounts), which puts it in the middle of its size range group. Ranking inside a size band matters because engagement rate falls as accounts grow, so a raw rate would mostly re-measure the follower count. It is a starting point for a look at follower quality, not a verdict on it.
When does @Surgeon_General post?
Most posts go out around 13:00 UTC, and Thursday is its busiest day, at roughly 0.63 posts per day across the measured window.
