Today I warmly welcomed the final group of Ghanaians successfully evacuated from South Africa following the recent wave of xenophobic attacks. This second phase of evacuations covered 1,000 Ghanaians. The Government of Ghana has therefore in total evacuated about 1,900 Ghanaians and provided them with reintegration financial support, transportation allowance, medical care, psychosocial support, free health insurance registration and ongoing employment assistance. We achieved this together as Ghanaians. Our message is clear: we value the lives of Ghanaians everywhere in the world, and no Ghanaian will be abandoned in harm’s way. I thank President Mahama for his inspirational leadership and all our local partners for their commitment to this worthy humanitarian mission. We continue to pray with the families of the four Ghanaians who died during this period. May God grant them divine succour. Next week the Foreign Ministry shall present a comprehensive report and account fully and transparently to the great people of Ghana. For God and Country 🇬🇭 🙏🏾

Yesterday, I spoke on phone to Mrs. Gifty Arday to convey deepest condolences on the tragic loss of her son, Professor Jason Atta Kwei Arday. I informed Mrs. Arday that President John Mahama commiserates with her family at this exceedingly difficult time and has personally signed a letter of condolence which is being delivered by our High Commissioner to the UK. Prof. Arday was a great source of pride and inspiration to Ghanaians in his ancestral home, and many across the world. This is indeed our collective and terribly painful loss; we shall keep his family, students and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers. As I assured Mrs. Arday in our solemn telephone conversation, Ghana will be present at his funeral to pay our respects. May Prof. Arday’s legacy help create a fairer, loving and just world.

I can confirm that we have repatriated Barosky and he is safely back with us in Ghana. As part of our consular mandate, the Foreign Ministry fully sponsored his repatriation to Ghana last night. We are also providing psychosocial support and a reintegration financial assistance. We are most grateful to our fellow citizens, particularly Nana Romeo, for bringing Barosky’s heart-wrenching plight in Manchester to our attention. I commend our High Commission in the UK for their impressive coordination. We strive to leave no Ghanaian behind. For God and Country 🇬🇭 🙏🏾

On Friday I inspected ongoing works at our ultramodern VIP Lounge project at the Accra International Airport. I am really impressed with progress and quality of execution. The project will be completed and handed over this year. We are fully delivering this project without touching taxpayer funds. The entire project is modeled as a corporate social responsibility funded by local Ghanaian businesses who release funds directly to the local contractors of their choice working on the VIP Lounge. The Foreign Ministry’s Estate Bureau only supervises to ensure standards are met. This project is a great symbol of what can be achieved without public funds and public procurement.
