It seems like a good moment to revisit the words of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden in his testimony regarding me and Football Leaks. "We judge a social act by its social outcomes. I believe that in the case of Rui Pinto, there is no question that the stories that have been uncovered have advanced the public interest".

Considero que Cristiano Ronaldo, no auge da sua carreira, foi o jogador mais completo da história do futebol mundial. O seu legado permanecerá para sempre na memória de todos os que vibram com este fantástico desporto. Mas existe também um lado mais obscuro. Através do Football Leaks, revelei o esquema fiscal que levou à sua condenação em Espanha, bem como o caso da violação de Kathryn Mayorga em Las Vegas que apenas por meras contingências do processo judicial não teve consequências de maior. A sua obscuridade, outrora extra-futebol, transbordou entretanto para as quatro linhas. À medida que o seu rendimento desportivo entrava em declínio, foi-se tornando cada vez mais evidente que o seu ego, a sua influência e a sua titularidade praticamente intocável e forçada na Selecção Nacional deixaram de servir a equipa para passarem a condicioná-la. Foi uma vitória da resiliência, do foco e da claridade. Foi uma luz interestelar num panorama sombrio. Depois de sete anos em que fui vítima da arbitrariedade de uma facção do Ministério Público e de um animus puniendi exacerbado, posso hoje encher os pulmões e exclamar bem alto: foi finalmente feita Justiça! Aproveito esta ocasião para dirigir um forte abraço à minha incansável equipa de advogados e a todos aqueles que, durante esta longa odisseia, estiveram ao meu lado!
