Depois de declarar publicamente o meu desejo de me candidatar à presidência da CBF no próximo pleito, retiro aqui, oficialmente, a minha intenção. Se a maioria com o poder de decisão entende que o futebol brasileiro está em boas mãos, pouco importa a minha opinião. Conforme já havia dito, os meus primeiros passos seriam na direção de dar voz e espaço aos clubes, bem como escutar as federações em prol de melhorias nas competições e desenvolvimento do esporte em seus estados. A mudança necessária viria desse alinhamento estratégico, com a força da visão compartilhada. No entanto, no meu primeiro contato com as 27 filiadas, encontrei 23 portas fechadas. As federações se recusaram a me receber em suas casas, sob o argumento de satisfação com a atual gestão e apoio à reeleição. Não pude apresentar meu projeto, levar minhas ideias e ouvi-las como gostaria. Não houve qualquer abertura para o diálogo. O estatuto concede às federações o voto de maior peso e, portanto, fica claro que não há como concorrer. A maior parte das lideranças estaduais apoia o presidente em exercício, é direito deles e eu respeito, independentemente das minhas convicções. Agradeço a todos que demonstraram interesse na minha iniciativa e sigo acreditando que o caminho para a evolução do futebol brasileiro é, antes de mais nada, o diálogo, a transparência e a união.
