RAPID AND EXTRAORDINARY PROMOTIONS He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them. - (1 Samuel 2:8) READ: Acts 6:5, Acts 8:5-8 Yesterday, I stated that steady promotion is good, but extraordinary promotion is better. Today, I want to discuss rapid and extraordinary promotions. Rapid and extraordinary promotions are great promotions that occur at an unusually high rate. For example, David was in the fields when Samuel sent for him and anointed him to be Israel's new king (1 Samuel 16:11-13). After that, it took over a decade before he became the king of Judah (2 Samuel 2:1-4). Another seven and a half years after that, he became king over the whole nation of Israel (2 Samuel 5:1-5). At first, he became a potential king, but then he ascended to become the king of Judah and ultimately the king of Israel. Elisha also experienced rapid and extraordinary promotions. He started as a farmer, but when God needed a successor for Elijah, heaven recruited him and gave him rapid speed (1 Kings 19:19-21). In (2 Kings 2:9-15), God promoted him, and he became one of the greatest prophets in the Old Testament. God used him to perform several mighty miracles, far more than his predecessor, with the last miracle occurring after his death (2 Kings 13:21). He was so great that in (2 Kings 2:19-22), he lifted a curse on Jericho, a city that had been under a curse since Joshua's time (Joshua 6:26). In (2 Kings 6:24-30), things got so bad in Samaria that women began to eat their children, but just one word from Elisha turned the situation around for good and brought economic liberation to the entire nation (2 Kings 7:1-16). Philip was another person in the Bible who experienced rapid and extraordinary promotions. In a short while, he moved from being just a member of the congregation to becoming a deacon (Acts 6:5), and then he was promoted again to become an evangelist who brought great joy to a whole city (Acts 8:5-8). His rapid promotion came as a result of the persecution of the church in Jerusalem, which caused many of the disciples to be scattered (Acts 8:3-4). This shows that sometimes, God will use what the enemy sends to destroy you as a means of promoting you. I have observed that when God sees that a believer has taken his or her walk with Him seriously, He shifts them from the realm of steady promotion to rapid and extraordinary promotion. Such persons will begin to experience promotions at an unprecedented speed. NEVER GIVE UP 1 For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off. - (Proverbs 23:18) READ: Genesis 41:37-44 Joseph is a good example of someone who never gave up despite the grave challenges that came his way. In Genesis 37:5-23, he had great dreams, but when he shared them with his brothers, they felt threatened. They conspired to kill him, but eventually agreed to sell him into slavery. This, however, did not distract Joseph. He knew he was destined for greatness, so he worked diligently until he became a leader among his fellow slaves. Then, the wife of his master tried to seduce him, and he refused her advances because he did not want to offend the God who gave him those great dreams (Genesis 39:9). He knew that as long as he didn't offend God, he would achieve his dreams. Later, the wife of his master lied against him, and he ended up in prison, where he also became a leader among his fellow prisoners. Eventually, after many years, God took him prisoners. from being a prisoner to becoming the Prime Minister of Egypt within a single day. One single move from God made his dreams become a reality. If God could promote a prisoner to such an exalted position, He can take you to any height you desire. In 1981, when I first became the General Overseer of the RCCG, I visited one of the few parishes we had in Lagos at the time. During my visit, a woman came to one of the programmes we held after it had concluded because she thought it was an evening programme. When she came, I had left; therefore, she fell on the ground crying, "God, now I know You don't want me to have a child." She had told herself that all she needed to do was set her eyes on the man of God, and she would conceive. When people asked her why she was crying, she explained, and they told her where I would be the next day. The next morning, she came to the venue I was in, and as soon as I got up to preach, she looked at me and said, "God, thank You." That month, she became pregnant because her faith touched God. She didn't give up on what she wanted. Beloved, don't give up. God's word to you will surely come to pass. If you hold on to the promises He has given you and continue to follow His leading, He will bring your dreams to a place of fulfilment according to His will, in Jesus' name. I was almost going to say, "Lord, but I'm praying"; however, I obeyed. As I opened my eyes, I saw a woman in the congregation, her face soaked in tears, weeping as she prayed. Then, God said, "Go and tell her, 'Weep not." I moved towards the congregation, approached her, and tapped her as I said, "God said, 'Weep not." Her eyes brightened, and I returned to the altar to continue praying. A year later, that same woman stood before me, along with some other people who wanted me to pray for them. When it was her turn for me to pray for her, I greeted her and said, "Sister, how can I help you?" She opened her mouth and could only mutter, "Jesus". I asked her a second time how I could help her, and she only said, "Jesus" again. I asked her a third time, and she said the same thing. I began to get impatient because there were other people in the queue. Eventually, she got herself together, and she told me that she was the woman whom God sent me to tell not to weep the previous year. She then told me that she was crying that day because she had been married for over ten years without any children, and her husband's relatives were urging him to send her packing if she didn't give birth to any children soon. As she shared her story, I immediately understood why she found it difficult to speak at first; she was holding a baby in her right hand and another in her left. God turned her seemingly hopeless situation into an occasion for rejoicing. I pray that God will turn any seemingly hopeless situation that might exist in your life around and fill your mouth with laughter, in Jesus' name. Beloved, if you have surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus Christ, my Daddy is saying to you today, "Weep not," just like Jesus said to the widow of Nain in today's Bible reading. Every time Jesus says, "Weep not," it is because He wants to perform a miracle. No matter how long you may have been weeping, your time of rejoicing has come. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy will surely come in the morning (Psalm 30:5). I decree that your days of rejoicing are here, in Jesus' name. In the middle of the night, I woke up to use the toilet and realised that my wife was not in the bedroom with me. I thought she had gone to use the guest toilet in the living room so as not to disturb my sleep. However, after waiting for a while and not seeing her, I went to check the living room and discovered that she was neither there nor in the guest toilet. I began to tremble, and I said, "God, where have I missed it? What is it that caused me to be left behind?" I thought the rapture had happened, and my wife had been taken, and I had been left behind. I was still trembling when the Holy Spirit said, "She didn't come with you on this trip." It was then that I remembered I had come on the trip alone. That is how conscious I always am of the rapture. It is better to live ready than to be careless and be left behind when the Lord returns. As I said two days ago, from the moment I learnt about the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, my prayer every night before bed has always been, "Lord, if you return before tomorrow, please don't leave me behind." I pray that when the Lord returns, you will not be left behind, in Jesus' name. The realisation that tomorrow may never come and that the Lord may return before sunrise tomorrow has kept me on my toes all these years. Nobody knows the hour the Lord will return. This is why you must live ready. You cannot afford to live carelessly because you do not know when your time on earth will elapse or when the Lord will return. Today's Bible reading compares two servants. One was faithful and wise, and he lived ready, doing his master's will until his return. The other was described as evil because he thought in his heart that his lord delayed his coming, and because of that, he began to act and live as he pleased. The Bible tells us that he was severely punished when his lord returned. Beloved, don't live carelessly because you think the Lord is delaying His return. He is coming soon. It was a night programme, and the owner of the house asked me to spend the night at his house afterwards because it was too late for me to return home. I obliged, and in the morning, he asked me to wait for breakfast. When it was time to eat, a chef came and asked my host what he wanted to eat. After so much back and forth, my host finally decided that he would have bread and eggs for breakfast. Then, for the next few minutes, another back-and-forth ensued because the chef asked my host how he wanted his eggs prepared - scrambled, poached, or fried - before he finally settled on boiled eggs. Then, it was time for another debate: how do you want your egg boiled, hard-boiled or medium-boiled? By then, it had been more than 25 minutes, and I had gotten really hungry. Finally, the chef turned to me when he finished with his boss and asked, "Sir, what will you eat?" I told him to give me anything he had. He said he had bread and eggs, and I said it was fine. Then, he asked if I wanted an omelette or bacon, the number of eggs I wanted, and so on. I told him that anything was fine, as long as it was enough to satisfy my hunger. After the whole ordeal, I thought to myself that even though I had no money, I had a good appetite at least. Child of God, while you may not have everything you desire in life yet, you must be grateful for the things you have. Ecclesiastes 6:9 says that the sight of the eyes is better than the wandering of desire. Many people are not grateful for what they have because they are consumed with thinking about the things they want. They do not appreciate the things they can see because of their wandering desires. Beloved, if God has given you the gift of life, be grateful. Ecclesiastes 9:4 says that as long as you are joined to all the living, there is hope; for a living dog is better than a dead lion. As long as you are alive, there is hope that you will achieve the things you desire. Don't be so focused on the things you wish you had that you forget to appreciate God for all you already have. GOD'S COVENANT OF PROTECTION For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her. - (Zechariah 2:5) READ: Psalm 91:1-16 The devil lures many people into evil covenants with the promise of protection; however, complete protection only exists in God. Romans 8:31 says, "... If God be for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:37 further says that we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us. This means that, if you are in a covenant with God, you will not have to fight any battle, because He will always fight for you. Many times, you would have won the battle before you even realise that someone was trying to attack you. I ran away from my village after some people threatened that they were going to 'eat me for breakfast,' and for 13 years, I could not return. However, after I met the Lord Jesus Christ, I was able to visit my village, and I even attended a wedding where I saw many of the people who had threatened to kill me through diabolical means. I was much younger in the faith at the time, so I had a lot of zeal but not much wisdom. I was asked to preach at the wedding, and I delivered a powerful sermon that hit them hard with the word of God. Some months later, those people went to the mother of the lady who got married and told her that it was her daughter's wedding that provided a platform for me to insult them. They further said that they had been waiting for an opportunity for revenge, and the opportunity had presented itself now that her daughter was pregnant. They told her, "We will see if your daughter will give birth, unless we are not the ones in charge here on earth." The lady's mother became frightened and came to me. I told her not to worry and assured her that on the day her daughter would give birth, all those who had threatened her would fall asleep. To the glory of God, things turned out exactly as I said; her daughter gave birth while those who threatened her were sleeping. The baby they swore would not be born is now a medical doctor. Beloved, God said that He will be a wall of fire around you in today's memory verse, and anyone who chooses to confront the Consuming Fire will not live to tell the story. Never be afraid of any force, person, or situation that threatens to harm you. Cry out to God in such cases, and He will show up to defend you and give you victory. ACCELERATED AND EXTRAORDINARY PROMOTIONS For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: - (1 Corinthians 1:26) READ: Joshua 1:1-9 The word 'minister in the olden days basically referred to a servant who ran all sorts of errands for his or her master. Such errands would often include emptying and washing the master's chamber pot, doing the master's laundry, washing his feet, and the like. While Moses was alive, Joshua was his minister, so you can imagine how shocking it must have been for the latter when God informed him that he was to become the leader of Israel after his master's demise. This is a good example of an accelerated and extraordinary promotion. The promotion was so sudden that Joshua became very anxious over the weight of his new responsibility. I know this because in today's Bible reading, God had to tell him three times to be strong and of good courage. I decree today that God will promote you in such a manner, in Jesus' name. Whenever I see people struggling for promotion and desiring to be in leadership positions, I know it is because they do not understand God's ways. God never gives accelerated and extraordinary promotions to the wise or the qualified. He never gives it to those who think they are brilliant enough to explain the scientific permutations behind His workings. He always uses the foolish and weak things to confound the wise and mighty things (1 Corinthians 1:27). Therefore, people who think they are strong and wise enough to work out their promotion should not expect accelerated and extraordinary promotions from God because He only accelerates the promotion of those who will never take His glory for themselves. On the day my wife and I got married at the marriage registry, we met a lady there who was dressed in a wedding gown. However, she wasn't with her groom; the man had abandoned her. The lady nearly ran mad, but she survived. After some time, she married a soldier. Unknown to her, the man who jilted her on their wedding day also joined the army. Then God moved. A military coup occurred, and her husband was made a military governor. Incidentally, the man who jilted her was assigned as her husband's aide-de-camp. Thus, anytime she wanted to enter a car, it was her former husband-to-be who would open the door for her since she was the wife of a military governor. Beloved, I decree today that God will accelerate your promotion, and all those who have been mocking you will be confounded, in Jesus' name.
