A typical post picks up 255 interactions against 160K followers, an engagement rate of 0.16%. Measured over 52 original posts, its engagement rate beats 62% of 20,444 tracked accounts of a similar size, which puts it in the middle of its size range rather than at either end. Posts are seen about 12K times each, and 2.09% of those impressions turn into an interaction. That is about 7.61% of the follower count, which is the gap between an audience on paper and an audience in a timeline. Posting runs at about 1.9 posts a day over the last 30 days, though only 27% of days saw any activity at all. Most posts go out around 06:00 UTC, and Tuesday is the busiest day of the week. Of the 52 posts sampled, 98% carry an image or video and 21% link out. The account's strongest tracked post pulled 1.5K interactions, about 5.7x its own typical post. Recurring topics include #navy, #opceto, #russian.

Compared with accounts its own size

Navy Lookout's engagement rate beats 62% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (20,444 accounts, accounts of similar size (decile 8 of 10)). A percentile is spread evenly by construction, so 50 really is the middle of that group and 90 really is its top tenth.

On engagement per impression rather than per follower it beats 63% of the same group. When those two numbers disagree, the gap is about how far its posts travel rather than how people react to them.

Where this sits in the catalog

At 0.16%, Navy Lookout sits above the 50th percentile of the 204,798 accounts in this comparison. That places it in the above the median band, which runs 0.143% to 0.678%.

Engagement rate as a share of followers, across the 204,798 accounts we have scanned enough to measure. The axis is logarithmic, because the top and bottom of this population are about 22,879 times apart and a linear axis would flatten everything below the median into a single point.

Posting timing

This account posts most often around 06:00 UTC, and Tuesday is its busiest day of the week. The bars below are the catalog-wide pattern, with this account's own busiest slot marked. They do not show how this account performs at each hour: we keep one aggregate per account, not one per hour, so that measurement does not exist in our data.

Formats this account uses

Its own posting mix on the left, and what each of those formats does across every account we track on the right. Only formats where the effect clears our publish test appear here, so an empty row is a format we could not measure rather than one that does nothing.

  • 98% of this account's sampled posts carry an image or video. Across the catalog, posts with an image or video run 111% above the same accounts' other posts.
  • 21% of its posts carry a link off X. Across the catalog, posts with an outbound link run 41% below the same accounts' other posts.
  • Its average post runs 243 characters, which falls in the 180 - 280 characters band. Across the catalog, posts of 180 to 280 characters match the same accounts' other posts almost exactly.

These are catalog-wide differences applied to this account's own posting mix, not a measurement of how each format performs for this account specifically. We keep one median per account, not one per format per account, so the second thing is not something this data can tell you.

First of four new high-speed landing craft launched for 🇯🇵JMSDF. The 35-metre aluminium craft is based on 🇬🇧🇦🇺 @BMT_Global CAIMEN design. Detailed design and construction was undertaken by Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU). It is the first BMT-designed vessel to be built under a Japanese shipbuilding programme. The craft uses BMT’s distinctive tri-bow hull form and is designed for speeds of around 18kn while carrying vehicles and personnel. It combines relatively high transit speed with the manoeuvrability and stability needed for beaching operations where established port facilities are unavailable. The BMT CAIMEN design is also the basis for the US Army’s Manoeuvre Support Vessel (Light).

The last surviving warship of the 1982 Falklands task force ex-HMS Ambuscade could be expended as a target within weeks. Sold to Pakistan in 1993, she served another 30 years as PNS Tariq. The Pakistan Navy has agreed to gift her for preservation but getting her home is the problem. War and instability across the Middle East have pushed insurance and transit costs sharply upwards, roughly doubling the bill for the 6,000nm passage to around £2M. The Pakistan Navy has now set a deadline of the end of September. If she has not moved by then, she will be destroyed. The plan is to make her the centrepiece of a Falklands War museum on the Clyde. The charity @FallsofClydeSco has written to the Pakistani Navy requesting an extension. Fundraising is live now and sponsorship opportunities are open. https://t.co/1WTvSWEG3m

1 down, 24 to go... First decommissioned RN nuclear submarine to be dismantled (ex-HMS Swiftsure) is due to be fully disposed of by end of this year. By June 2026, a total of 2,445 tonnes has been removed from the boat - about 62% of total weight. Don't expect to see any more photos - aspects of the boat's internals remain classified.

HMS Queen Elizabeth laid a wreath over the wreck of escort carrier HMS Dasher which sank on 27 Mar 1943 with the loss of 379 men in the Firth of Clyde. The result of a fuel explosion due to hasty wartime conversion and poor design - the lessons of which contribute to aircraft carrier safety today. @HMSQNLZ is on her way up Loch Long to take on munitions at Glen Mallan this morning.

Reading these numbers

What is Navy Lookout's engagement rate on X?
Navy Lookout (@NavyLookout) has an engagement rate of 0.16%, based on the median interactions across 52 original posts from the last 30 days against 159,979 followers. Replies, reposts and quote-posts of other people are excluded from that sample.
Is that a good engagement rate?
At 0.16%, Navy Lookout sits above the 50th percentile of the 204,798 accounts in this comparison. Those comparison accounts are all large ones, because our scanning cadence is weighted towards big accounts, so this is a ranking among peers of similar scale rather than a ranking across X.
Does @NavyLookout have real engagement?
Its engagement rate beats 62% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (20,444 accounts), which puts it in the middle of its size range group. Ranking inside a size band matters because engagement rate falls as accounts grow, so a raw rate would mostly re-measure the follower count. It is a starting point for a look at follower quality, not a verdict on it.
When does @NavyLookout post?
Most posts go out around 06:00 UTC, and Tuesday is its busiest day, at roughly 1.87 posts per day across the measured window.
