Ontzettend goed om burgemeester Mamdani te ontmoeten hier in zijn stad. We bezochten samen een community center in West Village. Nederland en New York zijn historisch uiteraard onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbonden. En in deze tijd delen we dezelfde uitdagingen. Vandaag is het drie jaar geleden dat bijna 1200 onschuldige mensen om het leven kwamen door een afschuwelijke terreurdaad van Hamas. Meer dan 250 anderen werden gegijzeld. Allemaal gewone Israëliërs, die op een festival, in hun eigen huis, op straat of waar dan ook werden overvallen door onvoorstelbaar geweld. De regio destabiliseerde in een spiraal van conflict en ellende. Tienduizenden onschuldige Palestijnen zijn sinds de Hamas-aanval gedood door het Israëlische leger. Tot de dag van vandaag zijn de gevolgen van al het geweld diep voelbaar. Het zijn schrikbarende, uitzichtloze cijfers. Want er is geen enkel doel dat dit geweld rechtvaardigt, maar vooral geen enkel leed dat hiermee wordt verlicht. Dat weten alle rouwende families, zowel Israëlische als Palestijnse. Zij leven in angst en onveiligheid. Ik wens hen vrede toe. In hun land en in hun hart.

Ontmoeting met de Syrische president Ahmed Hussein al-Sharaa. We spraken over de situatie in Syrië, in de bredere regio en over het belang van een inclusieve politieke transitie. Het ging ook over de mogelijke terugkeer van Syriërs vanuit Nederland en de mogelijkheden om te helpen bij de wederopbouw. In het bijzonder op het gebied van landbouw waar Syrië graag onze expertise voor inzet.

Vandaag is de Amsterdam Canal Parade. Elk jaar weer een bijzonder moment. Pride gaat over vrijheid, gelijkwaardigheid en inclusie. Er is nog altijd veel nodig voor de LHBTI-gemeenschap in binnen- en buitenland. Juist daarom is het belangrijk om vandaag ook samen te vieren. En het was een eer om als eerste Nederlandse minister-president ooit een stukje mee te varen. Ik wens iedereen een mooie Amsterdam Pride & World Pride!

De situatie op de Westelijke Jordaanoever verslechtert verder. Het geweld door kolonisten neemt toe en de economie komt daar steeds verder onder druk te staan. Dat moet stoppen. Daarom roept Nederland samen met internationale partners Israël op om de uitbreiding van illegale nederzettingen te stoppen en de plannen voor het omstreden E1 project terug te draaien.

I spoke with @MinPres Rob Jetten. I am grateful for his attention to Ukraine and his readiness to help. I informed Rob about the recent Russian attacks against our cities and communities, and I thank him for his sincere words of compassion and support. Almost every day, the Russians strike our people, sparing no ballistic missiles in their efforts to destroy lives. Air defense missiles are our main priority. We discussed how the Netherlands can support our defense now and as we prepare for winter. We greatly appreciate the willingness to work on finding solutions. We discussed the diplomatic situation and the meetings in Washington last week. We also spoke about Ukraine’s integration into the European Union, efforts to open four more negotiating clusters, and the enlargement more broadly. Thank you!

De Russische agressie richting Oekraïne escaleert steeds verder. Dat zagen we dit weekend opnieuw met onder meer luchtaanvallen op Kyiv. Rusland bestookt bewust burgerdoelen en energie-infrastructuur en wil Oekraïense steden onleefbaar maken en de economie breken deze winter. Dat mogen we niet laten gebeuren. President @ZelenskyyUa en ik spraken elkaar over de laatste ontwikkelingen in de oorlog. Een verdere versterking van de Oekraïense luchtverdediging is letterlijk van levensbelang. Zo heeft Oekraïne meer onderhoud, onderdelen en munitie nodig voor hun F-16-vloot. Ik heb toegezegd dat Nederland Oekraïne hiermee gaat helpen. Nederland blijft samen met onze internationale partners de steun voor Oekraïne onverminderd doorzetten. Ook houden we provocaties vanuit Rusland richting andere landen nauwlettend in de gaten.

Hoe kunnen we verder invulling geven aan de excuses voor het slavernijverleden? In navolging van mijn bezoek aan The Black Archives voor de zomer sprak ik hierover een aantal vertegenwoordigers van het ‘Zwart Manifest’, dit keer op het ministerie. Naar aanleiding van mijn woorden tijdens de Nationale Herdenking Slavernijverleden waarin ik een Nationale Route naar Herstel aankondigde, hebben zij mij vanmiddag een concreet voorstel voor een deltaplan aangeboden. Ik heb hen daarvoor bedankt en toegezegd op een later moment met een inhoudelijke reactie te komen. Het kabinet heeft de komende jaren nadrukkelijk aandacht voor het slavernijverleden en zijn complexe doorwerkingen naar het heden. Naast dat wij investeren in meer bewustwording, erkenning en bestrijding van de gevolgen van het slavernijverleden, zetten we ook in op verstevigen van gemeenschappen. We zetten onverminderd door met het voeren van dialoog met de gemeenschappen van nazaten van tot slaafgemaakten en de samenleving als geheel zodat we maatschappelijk echt het verschil kunnen maken. Zo tonen we met volle overtuiging rekenschap van misstanden uit het verleden.
