  My Response to the DG ISPR and the Violence in Balochistan Lastday , the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) once again accused me of being a "proxy of terrorists", a serious and recurring allegation made without a single shred of credible evidence. This pattern of unsubstantiated claims has become a disturbing hallmark of the DG ISPR's public statements. He further stated: "She (I) was the one who came seeking the dead bodies of the terrorists killed in the Jaffer Express hijacking incident. Who is she to seek the corpses?" Let me be clear: that particular press conference was widely misused, fabricated, and taken out of context to distort my message During my press conference in March, I did not condone any act of violence. My only demand was transparency. I asked for the identities of unidentified individuals, beyond the twelve named militants, who were buried in the dead of night at Quetta's Kasi graveyard. These unidentified bodies deserve to be named, and their families have a fundamental right to know the fate of their loved ones. This demand is not only moral but a legal right in any civilized society. For years, a disturbing pattern has emerged in Balochistan: following any violent incidents, law enforcement agencies have been involved in killing and secretly burying forcibly disappeared persons, later labeling them "militants." In the Jaffer Express case, the armed group responsible publicly released the names, photos, and details of the twelve men involved. Yet over two dozen bodies were brought to Civil Hospital Quetta. My question was: who were the others? Why were they buried in secrecy? Once again, in response to the DG ISPR's latest accusations, I ask: where is the evidence? If Pakistan's intelligence and military institutions are as capable as they claim, why has no proof ever been presented against me? My activism is peaceful, principled, and grounded in universal human rights values. I have consistently condemned violence, whether committed by non-state actors or the state itself. But Balochistan today is a landscape scarred by systemic repression, enforced disappearances, and a complete breakdown of justice and accountability. Rather than address these realities, the state chooses to vilify those who dare to speak the truth. The international community must take note. The people of Balochistan deserve justice, not smear campaigns. They deserve answers, not threats. And above all, they deserve to live without fear. Sincerely, Mahrang Baloch

  Case Update: Re-Arrest of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and BYC Leaders on Baseless Charges In a troubling display of legal overreach, Dr. Mahrang Baloch and her colleagues, Beebow Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch, Bebarg Baloch, Sibghat Ullah Shahjee, and Mama Ghaffar Baloch, were abruptly removed from preventive custody early this morning and re-arrested on what appear to be fabricated charges. Since March, Dr. Mahrang and the other activists had been detained without formal charges under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). Today, instead of being released or brought before a judicial board for the legally mandated review of their extended detention, they were suddenly produced before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta. The court handed them over to police on a 10-day remand based on highly fabricated First Information Reports (FIRs), a move seemingly intended to prolong their incarceration in the absence of credible evidence. A judicial board was officially scheduled to convene at 12:30 PM today to assess the legality of their MPO detention. However, at 7:00 AM, the Superintendent of Hudda District Prison Quetta informed the detainees that the MPO orders had been withdrawn. By 10:00 AM, a police team arrived, re-arrested them, and presented them before the ATC. During the hearing, officials from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) falsely informed the judges that the judicial board had already withdrawn the MPO orders, an apparent misrepresentation of the facts. In reality, the judicial board, comprising senior judges, including the Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court, was still scheduled to meet at 12:30 PM and had not yet issued any decision. Our legal team and family members immediately proceeded to the High Court, where they confirmed the hearing was still set to take place. During the 12:30 PM session, the judicial board formally ordered the release of Dr. Mahrang and her colleagues in the 3MPO case. Crucially, before this official release order was issued, police had already re-arrested Dr. Mahrang and others on the basis of fabricated FIRs. On this basis, the ATC granted a 10-day remand, preempting the judicial process and effectively nullifying the board’s decision before it was even made. This blatant manipulation of the timeline, where prison and CTD officials acted before the legal review had taken place, reveals a disturbing level of misconduct. It reflects a calculated and unlawful effort by state authorities and security agencies to bypass judicial oversight and suppress political dissent. This sequence of events is nothing short of a mockery of the legal process.   ڈاکٹر ماہ رنگ اور ان کے ساتھی، تھری ایم پی او کی مدت ختم ہونے کے باوجود غیر قانونی طور پر قید میں ہیں بلوچ یکجہتی کمیٹی کی رہنما ڈاکٹر ماہ رنگ بلوچ اور بیبو بلوچ کو 22 مارچ 2025 کو غیر قانونی طور پر گرفتار کرکے کوئٹہ کی ہدہ جیل میں تھری ایم پی او (3MPO) کے تحت قید کیا گیا تھا۔ قانون کے مطابق، تھری ایم پی او کے تحت کسی بھی شخص کو صرف 90 دن تک حراست میں رکھا جا سکتا ہے۔ 22 جون کو یہ مدت مکمل ہو چکی ہے۔ آئینی تقاضے کے مطابق، اس مدت کے بعد ایک بورڈ، جس کی سربراہی ہائی کورٹ کے جج کریں گے، تشکیل دیا جانا ضروری ہے تاکہ زیرِ حراست افراد کو پیش کیا جا سکے اور ان کی حراست کا مزید فیصلہ کیا جا سکے یا انہیں رہا کیا جاسکے۔ لیکن ڈاکٹر ماہ رنگ کے معاملے میں نہ کوئی بورڈ تشکیل دیا گیا اور نہ ہی انہیں پیش کیا گیا ہے۔ 22 جون کو جب قید کی مدت مکمل ہونے پر ہم، ڈاکٹر ماہ رنگ کے اہلِ خانہ، جیل پہنچے تو جیل سپرنٹنڈنٹ نے مبہم انداز میں بتایا کہ تھری ایم پی او کی مدت میں 15 روز کی توسیع کی گئی ہے۔ جب ہم نے استفسار کیا کہ بورڈ کب بیٹھا تھا اور ڈاکٹر ماہ رنگ و دیگر کو کب پیش کیا گیا، تو سپرنٹنڈنٹ کوئی تسلی بخش جواب نہ دے سکا۔ تین دن مسلسل جیل کی چکر کاٹنے کے بعد، ہمیں ایک نوٹیفکیشن دکھایا گیا جس میں تھری ایم پی او کی 15 روزہ توسیع کا ذکر تھا، مگر اس نوٹیفکیشن کی کاپی دینے یا اس کی تصویر لینے کی اجازت نہیں دی گئی۔ جب ہم نے اس نوٹیفکیشن کی مصدقہ کاپی کے لیے بلوچستان ہائی کورٹ کے رجسٹرار سے رجوع کیا، تو ہمیں صاف انکار کر دیا گیا۔ ہم نے ایک درخواست رجسٹرار ہائی کورٹ اور ایک درخواست ہوم ڈیپارٹمنٹ میں جمع کروائی ہے، لیکن آج ایک ہفتہ مکمل ہونے کے باوجود نہ تو ہمیں نوٹیفکیشن فراہم کیا جا رہا ہے اور نہ ہی ڈاکٹر ماہ رنگ اور ان کے ساتھیوں کو رہا کیا جا رہا ہے۔ ہم سمجھتے ہیں کہ اس ریاست میں جنگل کا قانون نافذ ہے۔ آئین، ملکی قوانین اور بین الاقوامی انسانی حقوق کے اصولوں کو مسلسل پامال کیا جا رہا ہے۔ پچھل تین مہینے سے بلوچستان کی ایک توانا سیاسی آواز اور بین الاقوامی سطح پر تسلیم شدہ انسانی حقوق کی علمبردار ڈاکٹر ماہ رنگ بلوچ اپنے ساتھیوں سمیت بلا جواز قید میں ہیں۔ اس معاملے میں بلوچستان ہائی کورٹ بھی مکمل طور پر بے بس دکھائی دیتی ہے۔ نہ صرف یہ کہ ان رہنماؤں کو غیر قانونی طور پر قید رکھا گیا ہے بلکہ ایک مشکوک نوٹیفکیشن میں ہائی کورٹ کا نام استعمال کیا جا رہا ہے، جس پر عدالت کوئی کارروائی کرنے سے قاصر ہے۔ #releasedrmahrangbaloch #ReleaseBycLeaders

  I am appalled and outraged by the Balochistan Assembly’s decision to pass yet another set of amendments to the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997 this week. Under this so-called amendment, the puppet, unelected, and very unpopular government of Balochistan claims it is protecting judges, witnesses, lawyers, and prosecutors. They say it will “provide a flexible and secure legal framework for the state to respond to evolving security challenges.” In reality, this is nothing but a dangerous step. It legitimizes repression. It silences opposition voices. Our greatest fear is now coming true. This amendment, together with this June’s Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill 2025, will not be used against violent actors but weaponized against peaceful activists, political workers, and opposition voices. This law rips away the fundamental right to a fair trial guaranteed under Article 10A of Pakistan’s constitution, and paves the way for secret, faceless courts where justice becomes a mockery. Balochistan’s security situation has already been marked by an intensifying crackdown on peaceful rights activists. Since March, there have been over 50 targeted crackdowns on members of the Baloch Yekjehti Committee (BYC). Hundreds of activists have been detained, abducted, or forcibly disappeared. Only in March, 147 people were disappeared. In April, 166 more. Between January and June alone, there were 814 enforced disappearances. That number is nearly equal to the total of the entire previous year. Students, workers, activists, and ordinary civilians are systematically targeted by the state and its agencies. At least 131 people have been killed without trial in the first six months of this year. These killings happpend through custodial torture, staged encounters, and indiscriminate military operations. In just one week of September, six people from the Kech district were killed in targeted attacks by members of death squads. This is not a security policy. This is slow-motion genocide. Every single day, an average of four to five Baloch are abducted. One to three are executed or killed by security forces and their allies. At the same time, state-backed private militias, locally known as death squads, have been reactivated. These groups work hand in glove with security agencies to terrorize the civilian population. The state is waging a bloody war against the Baloch, using both legal means, such as draconian laws, and illegal means, such as death squads. Both serve the same goal: the ethnic cleansing and subjugation of the Baloch people. I call upon my nation to remain steadfast, committed, and courageous in the face of this tyranny. Do not let fear occupy you. Our struggle is for justice. Our cause is righteous. Despite the state's brutality, we will continue our peaceful resistance against state oppression. History will judge those who use private militias to terrorise people and those who use law as a weapon of tyranny. It will vindicate those who fight for justice and dignity #ReleaseBYCLeaders

  I stand in solidarity with Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha in their struggle for justice, human rights, and the dignity of every human being. Their courage must not be met with silence. Freedom of speech, an essential human right has been denied, while colonial-era laws are selectively used to silence activists rather than address abuses by state institutions. For years, Imaan and Hadi have been at the forefront of human rights advocacy—amplifying marginalized voices and speaking out against all form of injustice and atrocities.The fabricated case brought against them, exposes the oppressive tactics of the state and highlights how easily the justice system can be used to target those who defend fundamental rights. I urge the international community to call for the immediate withdrawal of all unfounded charges, demand fair trials and due process, to ensure the safety of Imaan and Hadi. The use of law as a tool of repression must end. Justice must prevail.
