A typical post picks up 12 interactions against 139K followers, an engagement rate of 0.009%. Measured over 46 original posts, its engagement rate beats 19% of 20,444 tracked accounts of a similar size. That is a reason to look at how the audience behaves - reply depth, saves, whether the followers are recent - rather than a conclusion about it on its own. Posts are seen about 2.0K times each, and 0.638% of those impressions turn into an interaction. That is about 1.41% of the follower count, which is the gap between an audience on paper and an audience in a timeline. Posting runs at about 1.9 posts a day over the last 30 days, with activity on roughly 53% of days. Most posts go out around 10:00 UTC, and Friday is the busiest day of the week. Of the 46 posts sampled, 91% carry an image or video and 33% link out. The account's strongest tracked post pulled 80 interactions, about 6.7x its own typical post.

Measured over 46 original posts from a 30-day window, last computed on September 28, 2026.

Compared with accounts its own size

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur's engagement rate beats 19% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (20,444 accounts, accounts of similar size (decile 8 of 10)). A percentile is spread evenly by construction, so 50 really is the middle of that group and 90 really is its top tenth.

On engagement per impression rather than per follower it beats 30% of the same group. When those two numbers disagree, the gap is about how far its posts travel rather than how people react to them.

Where this sits in the catalog

At 0.009%, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur sits above the 10th percentile of the 205,374 accounts in this comparison. That places it in the bottom 25% band, which runs below 0.024%.

Engagement rate as a share of followers, across the 205,374 accounts we have scanned enough to measure. The axis is logarithmic, because the top and bottom of this population are about 22,897 times apart and a linear axis would flatten everything below the median into a single point.

Heartiest congratulations to Prof. Kantesh Balani, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, on being elected as Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (@insa_academy), effective January 2027. Prof. Balani has made outstanding scientific contributions towards engineering and quantifying cellular response (both 'transient' and 'matured' protein attachment on biosurfaces) and achieving multifunctionality (antibacterial, antioxidant, toughness, and multi-length-scale porosity), visualization of protein de-adhesion (via molecular dynamics) on biomaterial surfaces. Prof. Balani also contributed in designing porous and multifunctional Hydroxyapatite/Bioglass-based scaffolds/coatings, and in developing damage-tolerant ultra-high molecular polyethylene composites for biomedical applications. Warmest congratulations to Prof. Balani on this distinguished recognition! #IITKanpur #INSFellow #INSA #MaterialsScience #BiomedicalEngineering #ResearchExcellence #FacultyAchievements #AcademicExcellence

Heartiest congratulations to Prof. Ramasubbu Sankararamakrishnan, Department of Biological Sciences & Bioengineering, on being elected as Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (@insa_academy), effective January 2027. Prof. Sankararamakrishnan's work focussed on the biophysics of membrane proteins provide unique biophysical insight into their interactions and function within their lipidic environment. He demonstrated for the first time that plants have a subfamily of aquaporins, which led him to propose a hypothesis on the evolution of plants and developing a general theory of the links between protein sequence, structure and evolution. He has also delved deeply into the nature of non-covalent interactions and established a new paradigm for protein stability through ‘lone pair-pi’ interactions and possibility of Proline backbone nitrogen atoms participating in hydrogen bonds. This has led to augmenting drug design efforts, since traditional scoring functions were unable to account for these. He has also worked on balance between pro-and anti-apoptotic proteins to generate peptidic inhibitors of anti-apoptotic proteins, which have been experimentally validated and important for oncological research and drug design. Warmest congratulations to Prof. Sankararamakrishnan on this distinguished recognition! #IITKanpur #INSFellow #INSA #BSBE #Biophysics #ResearchExcellence #FacultyAchievements #AcademicExcellence

Ranked by total interactions across everything we have tracked for this account, which is a longer history than the 30-day window the rates above use. The multiple compares each post to this account's own median.

Reading these numbers

What is Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur's engagement rate on X?
Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (@IITKanpur) has an engagement rate of 0.009%, based on the median interactions across 46 original posts from the last 30 days against 139,094 followers. Replies, reposts and quote-posts of other people are excluded from that sample.
Is that a good engagement rate?
At 0.009%, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur sits above the 10th percentile of the 205,374 accounts in this comparison. Those comparison accounts are all large ones, because our scanning cadence is weighted towards big accounts, so this is a ranking among peers of similar scale rather than a ranking across X.
Does @IITKanpur have real engagement?
Its engagement rate beats 19% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (20,444 accounts), which puts it in the bottom quarter for its size group. Ranking inside a size band matters because engagement rate falls as accounts grow, so a raw rate would mostly re-measure the follower count. It is a starting point for a look at follower quality, not a verdict on it.
When does @IITKanpur post?
Most posts go out around 10:00 UTC, and Friday is its busiest day, at roughly 1.9 posts per day across the measured window.
