  OPERATION HADIN KAI IDENTIFY WANTED SENIOR ISWAP/ISIS TERRORIST LEADERS OPERATING AROUND THE LAKE CHAD BASIN Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded another significant breakthrough following recent successful offensive operations against ISWAP/ISIS terrorists in the Lake Chad region of Northern Borno State. During the operations, troops recovered several technical devices and other high-value intelligence materials, including a camcorder used by ISWAP terrorists to record propaganda videos and document operational activities. Subsequent forensic exploitation of the recovered devices generated actionable intelligence, leading to the identification of locations associated with terrorist activities as well as identities of several senior ISWAP leaders operating within the Mangari–Metele–Dogon Chukun axis along the fringes of the Lake Chad Basin in Abadam and Kukawa Local Government Areas of Borno State. The identified terrorists leaders and key operatives include; Abu Musa Al-Mangawi Baa Shuwa – Wali (Governor of ISIS West Africa Province), his Deputy/Amirul Jaish Muhammad Jidda (“The One-Handed Man”) and Hamad Abu Hanifa the Amirul-Fiya of ISWAP among others. Operation HADIN KAI wishes to specifically draw the attention of the public to Abu Musa Al-Mangawi Baa Shuwa, the ISWAP Wali, who remains the most wanted terrorist leader operating within the Lake Chad Basin. The military will offer a substantial financial reward to any individual whose credible and actionable information directly leads to his arrest. All information received will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, and the identity of informants will be fully protected in accordance with established security procedures. Operation HADIN KAI urges members of the public to support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts by providing credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in locating and apprehending these suspected terrorist operatives.   NIGERIAN ARMY-LED JOINT SECURITY TEAM RESCUES 16 KIDNAP VICTIMS IN KOGI Troops of the Nigerian Army, working in close collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Navy, the Nigeria Police Force, local vigilantes and hunters, have successfully rescued all 16 persons abducted by suspected kidnappers during a coordinated search and rescue operation in Kogi State. The victims were kidnapped on Sunday 9 August 2026 when armed criminals attacked commuters along the Ojuwo–Ajengo–Memarebo and Ojiwo–Itobe roads in Ofu Local Government Area of the state. Acting swiftly on credible intelligence that the victims had been moved to the vicinity of Adumu Community in Dekina Local Government Area, troops of 21 Battalion and personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Lugard immediately launched a joint search and rescue operation alongside the Nigeria Police, vigilantes and local hunters. During the operation, the joint security team established contact with the fleeing kidnappers and engaged them in a fierce firefight. Overwhelmed by the superior firepower and coordinated assault of the security forces, the criminals abandoned all their captives and escaped into the surrounding forest with gunshot wounds. The operation culminated in the successful rescue of all 16 kidnapped victims, comprising six adult males, six adult females and four children. The rescued victims are undergoing documentation, medical assessment and reunification with their families. Regrettably, one local hunter who participated courageously in the operation paid the supreme sacrifice, May his soul rest in peace. Also, one police personnel sustained injuries during the encounter and is currently receiving medical treatment. Their bravery and commitment to protecting innocent citizens are deeply appreciated. The successful rescue of the 16 victims underscores the effectiveness of sustained joint operations and the synergy among the Nigerian Army, sister security agencies and local security stakeholders in combating kidnapping and other violent crimes. It also reflects the resolve of security forces to deny criminal elements freedom of action across the country. The Nigerian Army commends members of the public for their continued cooperation and timely provision of credible information, which remains critical to ongoing efforts to protect lives and restore peace.   WANTED SOLDIER ARRESTED OVER ALLEGED SUPPLY OF MILITARY ACCOUTREMENTS TO TERRORISTS Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a soldier recently declared wanted by the Nigerian Army for his alleged involvement in the illegal supply of military accoutrements to terrorist and other criminal elements, in a sustained effort to dismantle criminal support networks. The suspect, 23NA/84/1939 Private Mohammed Yusuf of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory, Lagos, was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. on 25 July 2026 by troops of 7 Provost Group, following credible human intelligence. He had been declared wanted by the Nigerian Army on 23 July 2026 over the same allegations. The suspect was apprehended at Jidari Bus Stop, Maiduguri, while allegedly attempting to flee to the Republic of Cameroon. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect absconded from his unit on 7 July 2026 and subsequently relocated to Maiduguri, where he reportedly went into hiding in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area with the assistance of an associate. His arrest underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the Nigerian Army's unwavering commitment to holding personnel accountable for actions that undermine military ethics, discipline and national security. The suspect is currently in the custody of 7 Provost Group, where further investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of his activities and identify other individuals who may have been involved. Operation HADIN KAI reiterates that there is no safe haven for individuals who support terrorism or any form of criminality, irrespective of their status.   TROOPS OF OPERATION UDO KA ARREST FLEEING KIDNAPPING SYNDICATE COMMANDER, RECOVER ARMS IN ENUGU Troops of 82 Division/Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have recorded another major operational breakthrough with the arrest of a notorious kidnapping syndicate commander and the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, seven magazines and 133 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition from a forest hideout in Enugu State. The suspect was apprehended during a coordinated intelligence-led operation in the Gariki General Area of Enugu State, following sustained efforts to dismantle the criminal syndicate responsible for the abduction of two persons in Udi Local Government Area on 2 August 2026. The arrest followed an earlier operation in which troops neutralised one member of the syndicate and apprehended another. Subsequent exploitation of the arrested suspect yielded critical intelligence that led to the identification of the fleeing syndicate commander and the location of the group's concealed arms cache. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops intensified the manhunt, leading to the tracking, interception and arrest of the fleeing syndicate commander as he attempted to escape from Enugu State. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is linked to several kidnapping activities across the South East and North Central regions. Items recovered from him include US$1,000, ₦785,900 in cash and other incriminating items. Further exploitation of intelligence obtained from the arrested suspects led troops to Umuchingu Ujenike Forest, where members of the syndicate had concealed their weapons. During the follow-up operation troops successfully recovered four AK-47 rifles, seven AK-47 magazines and 133 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition from the forest hideout. The successful operations further demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-driven joint operations in disrupting organised criminal networks, apprehending fleeing suspects and denying criminal elements access to weapons and safe havens. The arrested syndicate commander is currently undergoing further interrogation to facilitate follow-on operations aimed at apprehending other members of the criminal network and their collaborators. The Joint Task Force, Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains steadfast in sustaining aggressive, intelligence-led operations against criminal elements across the South East. Troops will continue to pursue all those who threaten the peace and security of law-abiding citizens while ensuring a safe and secure environment for socio-economic activities to flourish throughout the region.   COAS APPROVES APPOINTMENT OF GENERAL OFFICERS COMMANDING TO NEWLY ESTABLISHED NIGERIAN ARMY DIVISIONS The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the appointment of General Officers Commanding (GOCs) to the newly established Nigerian Army Divisions, following the approval by His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for the establishment of four additional Divisions. The landmark development forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Nigerian Army's force structure, expand its operational footprint, enhance command and control as well as improve the Service's capacity to effectively respond to Nigeria's evolving security challenges. The newly established Divisions will immediately commence operations, in the respective locations, on attainment of Initial Operational Capability (IOC) while deliberate measures are being implemented to progressively attain Full Operational Capability (FOC). This phased approach will ensure seamless operationalisation, operational continuity and rapid force projection across the country. Consequently, the Nigerian Army has undertaken a comprehensive reorganisation of its Divisional Areas of Responsibility. Under the new structure, 1 Division Kaduna will be responsible for security in Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States, while 2 Division Ibadan will cover Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo States. The 3 Division Jos will oversee Plateau, Bauchi and Gombe States. The newly established 5 Division, with Headquarters in Makurdi, will assume responsibility for Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi States, while 6 Division Port Harcourt will cover Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States. The 7 Division Maiduguri will be responsible for Borno and Yobe states while 8 Division Sokoto will retain responsibility for Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States. Furthermore, the newly established 9 Division, headquartered in Ilorin, will cover Kwara and Niger States, while the newly established 10 Division, headquartered in Jalingo, will be responsible for security in the boader areas of Taraba and Adamawa States. The 81 Division Lagos will continue to oversee Lagos and Ogun States, while 82 Division Enugu will retain responsibility for Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi and Imo States. The newly established 83 Division, with Headquarters in Benin City, will cover Edo, Delta and Bayelsa States when activated later in the year. To provide effective leadership for the new formations, the COAS has approved the appointment of seasoned senior officers as General Officers Commanding. Those appointed includes; Major General Yakubu Yahaya redeployed from Headquarters Joint Task Force (North Central), Operation SAVANNA SHIELD (OPSS), to Headquarters 9 Division, Ilorin, as the General Officer Commanding and Commander, Operation SAVANNA SHIELD. Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife has been redeployed from Headquarters 2 Division/Sector 3 Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to Headquarters 10 Division, Jalingo, as the General Officer Commanding. Similarly, Major General Moses Gara has been redeployed from Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) to Headquarters 5 Division, Makurdi, where he assumes the dual appointment of General Officer Commanding and Commander, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE.

  NIGERIAN ARMY EXPANDS COMBAT CAPABILITY AS COAS CHARGES TROOPS TO LEAD NEW FORMATIONS WITH PROFESSIONALISM The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged soldiers graduating from Exercise RESTORE HOPE X to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and operational excellence as they prepare to serve in the Nigerian Army’s newly established divisions, formations and units. The COAS gave the charge on Friday, 7 August 2026, during the graduation ceremony of the Advanced Infantry Training Programme, code-named Exercise RESTORE HOPE X, held at the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATC), Kachia, Kaduna State. He described the programme as the flagship of the Nigerian Army’s post-basic infantry training framework, deliberately designed to sharpen combat proficiency, strengthen the warrior ethos and prepare soldiers for the complex realities of contemporary military operations. Lieutenant General Shaibu noted that the graduation comes at a defining period in the ongoing transformation of the Nigerian Army, which is currently undertaking one of the most deliberate force expansion and capability enhancement initiatives in its history. He disclosed that, following the approval of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the restructuring of the Nigerian Army, additional divisions, formations and units have been established to optimise force disposition and improve operational responsiveness to the nation’s evolving security threats. He explained that many of the graduating soldiers would constitute the nucleus of these new formations and are expected to translate their training into operational effectiveness. The Army Chief urged the graduands to justify the significant investment made in their training by demonstrating exceptional professionalism, sound judgment and unwavering commitment to mission accomplishment. He encouraged them to remain physically fit, mentally agile and technologically proficient, continually adapt to emerging threats, embrace innovation and uphold the highest standards of discipline, respect for the rule of law, protection of human rights and strict compliance with the rules of engagement throughout their careers. The COAS expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support to the Nigerian Army’s operational, training and administrative requirements, describing the President’s strategic guidance and continued investment as instrumental to the Service’s ongoing transformation and force expansion. He stressed that sustained investment in realistic, mission-oriented training remains fundamental to building a highly skilled fighting force capable of achieving decisive operational success across all theatres.   OPERATION HADIN KAI: TROOPS FOIL TERRORIST ABDUCTION ATTEMPT, RESCUE 31 CIVILIANS IN BORNO In a display of vigilance and bravery, troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) has yet again thwarted a terrorist abduction attempt and rescued 31 civilians during a successful military operation conducted along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State. At about 3:45 p.m on 31 July 2026, troops of 135 Special Forces Battalion, Dutsen Kura, detected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists through real-time surveillance systems as they intercepted four civilian vehicles and abducted their occupants. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the Battalion deployed a Quick Response Force in pursuit of the terrorists as they fled towards the Mangari–Dora general area. The troops made contact with the insurgents and engaged them with effective fire, compelling the terrorists to abandon the abducted civilians and the four civilian vehicles before fleeing into the surrounding bush in disarray. During the operation, troops also recovered motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists. All 31 abducted civilians were rescued unharmed, while the four civilian vehicles were recovered intact. Following the successful rescue, troops dominated the general area and conducted further exploitation to deny the terrorists any opportunity to regroup. No further contact was made during the operation. The rescued civilians and recovered vehicles were subsequently escorted to Buratai, where the victims regained possession of their vehicles and continued their journey safely. The successful operation once again demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations in protecting civilians and frustrating terrorist activities. The Joint Task Force remains resolute in sustaining aggressive operations to eliminate the remnants of terrorists while ensuring the security of communities and major lines of communication across the North East Theatre.
