The likes of Lamine and Cubarsí have really created a lot of impatience among fans when it comes to the development of young players. We've become so used to seeing teenagers immediately perform at an elite level that we've started treating it as the standard, when in reality, players like them are the exception. A player not having reached his peak or not having developed as much as we'd hoped by the age of 22 is absolutely not the end of the world. Every player develops at a different pace, and in Balde's case, you also have to take into account how much injuries have interrupted his development. That's why I think giving up on Balde at 22 feels a bit too reactionary. We might simply be judging his development against unrealistic standards created by a couple of extraordinary young players.
