A typical post picks up 95 interactions against 188K followers, an engagement rate of 0.051%. Measured over 28 original posts, its engagement rate beats 45% of 15,519 tracked accounts of a similar size, which puts it in the middle of its size range rather than at either end. Posts are seen about 9.0K times each, and 1.06% of those impressions turn into an interaction. That is about 4.77% of the follower count, which is the gap between an audience on paper and an audience in a timeline. Posting runs at about 2.2 posts a day over the last 30 days, though only 30% of days saw any activity at all. Most posts go out around 01:00 UTC, and Monday is the busiest day of the week. Of the 28 posts sampled, 89% carry an image or video, 11% are part of a thread and 11% link out. The account's strongest tracked post pulled 232 interactions, about 2.4x its own typical post. Recurring topics include #erode, #bangalorerains, #chennai.

Compared with accounts its own size

Chennai Rains (COMK)'s engagement rate beats 45% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (15,519 accounts, accounts of similar size (decile 8 of 10)). A percentile is spread evenly by construction, so 50 really is the middle of that group and 90 really is its top tenth.

On engagement per impression rather than per follower it beats 45% of the same group. When those two numbers disagree, the gap is about how far its posts travel rather than how people react to them.

Where this sits in the catalog

Engagement rate as a share of followers, across the 156,396 accounts we have scanned enough to measure. The axis is logarithmic, because the top and bottom of this population are about 26,062 times apart and a linear axis would flatten everything below the median into a single point.

Formats this account uses

Its own posting mix on the left, and what each of those formats does across every account we track on the right. Only formats where the effect clears our publish test appear here, so an empty row is a format we could not measure rather than one that does nothing.

These are catalog-wide differences applied to this account's own posting mix, not a measurement of how each format performs for this account specifically. We keep one median per account, not one per format per account, so the second thing is not something this data can tell you.

A fresh Low Pressure Area is likely to form over North Bay in the next 24 hours and could become a Well Marked Low in the subsequent 24 to 48 hours. The movement across East and subsequently Central India is being picked up differently by Numerical and ML models. This could potentially alter the rainfall impact for Peninsular India including west coast. Meanwhile Coastal TN may see increased thunderstorm activity today with 1 / 2 places between Chennai and Pondy likely to see fairly intense thunderstorms later tonight.

As a fresh cyclonic circulation over the Andaman Sea is likely to become a Low Pressure Area in the next 48 hours afternoon temperatures may continue to remain high over the plains of Tamil Nadu for the next couple of days. As the circulation moves closer to Peninsular East Coast increased rainfall activity is likely over Peninsular India.

This is not a "As Told by Me" post. This is about the journey from power point to vibe coding. Visual charts were part of the daily updates from the early days. Over time the charts continued to evolve though were always manually drawn. Many would ask how are these charts are created and people were surprised to know these rainfall charts were created using powerpoint. During the past decade many youngsters got into weather blogging and people like @APWeatherman96 @chennaisweather started plotting charts using weather data from models like ECMWF. Ofcourse there is always @smkirthiga who did her Phd in weather modelling. This created a new challenge. A challenge that also provided an opportunity to unlearn and learn. Collaborating with @VaiyaiVenkat for NEM 2025 outlook opened the possibilities of starting afresh. So at a fairly ripe age of 51 thanks to the challenge from young upstarts over the past couple of days what you are seeing are vibe coded customized weather forecasts based on ECMWF model data with parameters getting tweaked as I understand what is working and what is not working. கற்றது கைமண் அளவு, கல்லாதது உலகளவு. The journey will continue and it is never late to learn something new.

A squall line of thunderstorms stretching all the way from Central AP to South TN in multiple clusters. Effect of favourable atmospheric conditions and the presence of the cyclonic circulation has meant the storms are blooming everywhere. Could turn out to be one of the best days of rains for interior Peninsular India. Ofcourse Chennai wil have to remain a spectator mostly for the next 24 to 48 hours.

Under the influence of a wind convergence created by the Low Pressure Area over North Bay scattered thunderstorm activity is likely today over the plains of Tamil Nadu. Once again if real time wind pattern remains favourable 1 / 2 places in the coastal stretch between Chennai and Pondy may see intense thunderstorms during late night hours. As the LPA moves inland towards West India an increase in rainfall activity along the Peninsular West Coast is expected.

Yet another hot day ahead for the plains of Tamil Nadu as monsoon continues to remain weak along Peninsular West Coast. Today and tomorrow thunderstorm activity may be subdued as well with possibly North Coastal TN alone see some late evening / night thunderstorms. Later this week when a cyclonic circulation develops over Central Bay thunderstorm activity is expected to pick up once again.

Interior thunderstorms will continue over Peninsular India today as well. With convergence zone slightly to the North compared to the past couple of days the TN / KA border areas between Erode dt and Krishnagiri dt may be the hotspots along with adjoining areas of S. Karnataka. Winds are expected to gradually return back to Westerlies from tomorrow which will bring back thunderstorms to coastal areas like Chennai.

While the interior areas of Peninsular India was seeing a good few days of thunderstorms Peninsular West Coast continued to remain subdued. That is likely to change from tomorrow as rains make a gradual return under the influence of a developing Cyclonic circulation in Bay. Meanwhile with winds turning back to westerlies coastal areas of TN like Chennai also can look forward to the return of thunderstorm from tonight / tomorrow after a lull for the past few days.

A sight not normally one would see during a mid September afternoon. More like mid October afternoon when it is just about time for Northeast Monsoon to start. A long squall line of thunderstorms from all the way from Nellore to Delta. Moisture from the East developing convectively under the hot afternoon sun. These storms may move further inland bringing heavy rains later in the evening to interior areas.

What is Chennai Rains (COMK)'s engagement rate on X?
Chennai Rains (COMK) (@ChennaiRains) has an engagement rate of 0.051%, based on the median interactions across 28 original posts from the last 30 days against 187,844 followers. Replies, reposts and quote-posts of other people are excluded from that sample.
Is that a good engagement rate?
At 0.051%, Chennai Rains (COMK) sits above the 25th percentile of the 156,396 accounts in this comparison. Those comparison accounts are all large ones, because our scanning cadence is weighted towards big accounts, so this is a ranking among peers of similar scale rather than a ranking across X.
Does @ChennaiRains have real engagement?
Its engagement rate beats 45% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (15,519 accounts), which puts it in the middle of its size range group. Ranking inside a size band matters because engagement rate falls as accounts grow, so a raw rate would mostly re-measure the follower count. It is a starting point for a look at follower quality, not a verdict on it.
When does @ChennaiRains post?
Most posts go out around 01:00 UTC, and Monday is its busiest day, at roughly 2.17 posts per day across the measured window.
