Please keep off the grass... unless you're mowing the meadow 🐎 🌱 🌸 This morning, shire horses Cosmo and Bryn from Waldburg Shires were back to mow the iconic @Kings_College wildflower meadow. Working with shire horses, a 100-year-old mower and a traditional hay wain is not only a beautiful sight; it's also the method that is best for the environment. Mowing the meadow in this way rather than using a tractor lowers carbon emissions and exerts much less pressure on the soil, which protects the delicate structure of the meadow and helps ensure next year's growth. Once harvested, the hay is distributed across the city to make more wildflower meadows and sent to local farmers as winter feed for livestock.
