A typical post picks up 96 interactions against 493K followers, an engagement rate of 0.019%. Measured over 48 original posts, its engagement rate beats 39% of 3,899 tracked accounts of a similar size, which puts it in the middle of its size range rather than at either end. Posts are seen about 16K times each, and 0.601% of those impressions turn into an interaction. That is about 3.22% of the follower count, which is the gap between an audience on paper and an audience in a timeline. Posting runs at about 2 posts a day over the last 30 days, with activity on roughly 73% of days. Most posts go out around 15:00 UTC, and Wednesday is the busiest day of the week. Of the 48 posts sampled, 83% carry an image or video, 10% are part of a thread and 38% link out. The account's strongest tracked post pulled 1.3K interactions, about 14x its own typical post. Recurring topics include #gannfire, #calfire, #backtoschool.

Compared with accounts its own size

CAL FIRE's engagement rate beats 39% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (3,899 accounts, accounts of similar size (decile 7 of 10)). A percentile is spread evenly by construction, so 50 really is the middle of that group and 90 really is its top tenth.

On engagement per impression rather than per follower it beats 38% of the same group. When those two numbers disagree, the gap is about how far its posts travel rather than how people react to them.

Where this sits in the catalog

At 0.019%, CAL FIRE sits above the 25th percentile of the 37,856 accounts in this comparison. That places it in the below the median band, which runs 0.012% to 0.081%.

This is how fast it happens. While crews were responding to the Gann Fire, a new column of smoke appeared. Crews moved in quickly, bringing dozers, aircraft, and firefighters to the fire before it had a chance to grow. Dozers cut containment lines. Aircraft dropped retardant and water. Firefighters attacked from the ground. The Gelding Fire was stopped at 3 acres. For a videographer, getting to capture those first moments is rare. For firefighters, this is the everyday work of keeping wildfires small. #GeldingFire #GannFire #InitialAttack @CALFIRETCU

CONDORS BACK IN THE WILD. @Ventana_WS's Condor Program was caring for two condors that had completed treatment for lead poisoning and were ready to return to the wild. But with the Timber Fire threatening the sanctuary and roads closed because of firefighting operations, there was no safe way for the birds to leave on their own. CAL FIRE and the U.S. Forest Service worked with the sanctuary to reach the remote release pen. After nearly two hours traveling through the incident area, they made it to the birds and safely released both condors back into the wild. Within minutes, the two birds joined a group of wild condors already in the area and began flying east toward the mountains. Every life matters during a wildfire, including the wildlife caught in its path. We’re grateful to work alongside our partners to help give these endangered condors a safe path back to the wild. #TimberFire #CaliforniaCondor #WildlifeRescue #CALFIRE #WildfireResponse @LosPadresNF @CALFIREBEU @CALFIRECZU

They thought the fire was moving away. Minutes later, flames nearly 20 feet high were in their backyard. A San Diego County couple, ages 74 and 70, had initially been unsure about evacuating as the Thorn Fire burned nearby. When the fire suddenly changed direction and smoke began surrounding their home, they called for help. CAL FIRE/San Deigo County Fire paramedics raced to evacuate the couple and get them to safety. Thankfully, the home was also saved. Wildfires can change direction quickly. If you or someone in your household needs extra time or assistance to evacuate, leave early. Don’t wait for conditions to become dangerous. Read the full story from The Alpine Sun. https://t.co/YX56gK1NCb

🐾 Sometimes the best support has four paws. For National Dog Day, we’re highlighting some of the therapy dogs who have visited our personnel at incidents across California. Wildfire response is demanding work, and taking care of the people behind the response is just as important as the work itself. These visits provide a moment to pause, reset and connect, helping support the mental health and overall well-being of our personnel during challenging assignments. We’re grateful to the organizations and handlers who make these visits possible and to the dogs who show up ready to do what they do best. #NationalDogDay #CALFIRE #FirefighterWellness #MentalHealth

New, first-in-the-nation home landscaping requirements approved. The California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection has approved new defensible space regulations to help reduce the risk of wildfire spreading to homes. Under the new rules, homes in wildfire-prone areas will be required to maintain a nonflammable five-foot buffer around structures. The regulations will be phased in over a five-year period for existing homeowners in wildfire-prone areas, with an emphasis on education over enforcement. Creating defensible space is an important part of preparing homes and communities for wildfire. Reading these numbers

A typical post picks up 96 interactions against 493K followers, an engagement rate of 0.019%. What is CAL FIRE's engagement rate on X?
CAL FIRE (@CAL_FIRE) has an engagement rate of 0.019%, based on the median interactions across 48 original posts from the last 30 days against 493,473 followers. Replies, reposts and quote-posts of other people are excluded from that sample.
Is that a good engagement rate?
At 0.019%, CAL FIRE sits above the 25th percentile of the 37,856 accounts in this comparison. Those comparison accounts are all large ones, because our scanning cadence is weighted towards big accounts, so this is a ranking among peers of similar scale rather than a ranking across X.
Does @CAL_FIRE have real engagement?
Its engagement rate beats 39% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (3,899 accounts), which puts it in the middle of its size range group. Ranking inside a size band matters because engagement rate falls as accounts grow, so a raw rate would mostly re-measure the follower count. It is a starting point for a look at follower quality, not a verdict on it.
When does @CAL_FIRE post?
Most posts go out around 15:00 UTC, and Wednesday is its busiest day, at roughly 1.97 posts per day across the measured window.
