Boyan Slat engagement report
@BoyanSlat - 201K followers on X
Measured over 9 original posts from a 30-day window, last computed on October 8, 2026.
Engagement
A typical post picks up 828 interactions against 201K followers, an engagement rate of 0.411%. Measured over 9 original posts, its engagement rate beats 83% of 20,444 tracked accounts of a similar size. Comparing inside a size band matters here: engagement rate falls as accounts grow, so a raw rate would mostly just re-measure the follower count. Posts are seen about 32K times each, and 2.61% of those impressions turn into an interaction. That is about 15.8% of the follower count, which is the gap between an audience on paper and an audience in a timeline. Posting runs at about 0.67 post a day over the last 30 days, though only 40% of days saw any activity at all. Most posts go out around 13:00 UTC, and Wednesday is the busiest day of the week. Of the 9 posts sampled, 100% carry an image or video and 22% are part of a thread. The account's strongest tracked post pulled 33K interactions, about 39x its own typical post.

Compared with accounts its own size
Boyan Slat's engagement rate beats 83% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (20,444 accounts, accounts of similar size (decile 9 of 10)). A percentile is spread evenly by construction, so 50 really is the middle of that group and 90 really is its top tenth.
On engagement per impression rather than per follower it beats 71% of the same group. When those two numbers disagree, the gap is about how far its posts travel rather than how people react to them.
Where this sits in the catalog
At 0.411%, Boyan Slat sits above the 50th percentile of the 204,880 accounts in this comparison. That places it in the above the median band, which runs 0.143% to 0.678%.

Posting timing
This account posts most often around 13:00 UTC, and Wednesday is its busiest day of the week. The bars below are the catalog-wide pattern, with this account's own busiest slot marked. They do not show how this account performs at each hour: we keep one aggregate per account, not one per hour, so that measurement does not exist in our data.

Formats this account uses
Its own posting mix on the left, and what each of those formats does across every account we track on the right. Only formats where the effect clears our publish test appear here, so an empty row is a format we could not measure rather than one that does nothing.
| Format | This account | Catalog effect | 95% interval | Accounts behind it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Image or video | 100% of posts | +111% | +108% to +115% | 34K |
| Outbound link | 0% of posts | -41% | -42% to -40% | 32K |
| Typical length | - | no effect | -2% to -1% | 42K |
- 100% of this account's sampled posts carry an image or video. Across the catalog, posts with an image or video run 111% above the same accounts' other posts.
- 0% of its posts carry a link off X. Across the catalog, posts with an outbound link run 41% below the same accounts' other posts.
- Its average post runs 273 characters, which falls in the 180 - 280 characters band. Across the catalog, posts of 180 to 280 characters match the same accounts' other posts almost exactly.
These are catalog-wide differences applied to this account's own posting mix, not a measurement of how each format performs for this account specifically. We keep one median per account, not one per format per account, so the second thing is not something this data can tell you.

Remember the plastic straw debate? I was curious how banning straws globally would stack up against @TheOceanCleanup’s current impact. US beach cleanup data suggests straws make up just 0.005% of plastic pollution. The Ocean Cleanup is now stopping 2–5% of global plastic inflow (and growing rapidly) So our current impact is already ~400–1000x what a global straw ban could ever achieve!

Every time I visit the UK I’m struck by the vast amount of health and safety signage cluttering public spaces. It’s not just ugly, but it probably makes you ignore any safety message that is genuinely important. https://t.co/foRpijLd3j

Pretty wild times at our Guatemala projects. In just two weeks, we extracted 593 (!) truckloads of trash that would otherwise have flowed into the Caribbean. https://t.co/A0BobZTBKC

As part of The Ocean Cleanup’s expansion into India, I got to spend some time there earlier this year. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I really fell in love with the country! A few travel notes from a first-time visitor: - There is a degree of chaos unlike anything I’ve experienced. Yet, paradoxically, I found there’s something strangely soothing about it. It invites you to let go of the instinct to control and systematize everything; clearly, society can function without it. The intensity also forces you to be truly present by crowding out whatever is preoccupying your mind. - Then, the roads. You’ll regularly see trucks overtaking trucks that are overtaking a car which is already in the opposing lane because it’s avoiding a cow. - Especially outside the biggest cities, you really stand out as a Westerner. I’ve never been asked to pose for so many selfies merely because of how I look. - I generally found people exceptionally helpful, hardworking and very direct. As a Dutch person, I can appreciate that last part. - India is *loud*. As someone who is sensitive to noise, I was basically wearing noise-cancelling earphones all the time. - Yes, India has a waste problem, although in general it didn’t seem worse than what I’ve seen in the other countries we operate in. I think a city like Mumbai is a top plastic emitter mainly because of the combination of its sheer population, the monsoon and inadequate waste collection in the many informal parts of the city.

This video of Santa Marta’s Río Manzanares was one of the first videos I saw of plastic flowing into the oceans, and it played a big part in my decision to expand our scope to rivers. Which makes me all the more excited that we’ll soon be deploying here! https://t.co/NZTtzgONBt

- What is Boyan Slat's engagement rate on X?
- Boyan Slat (@BoyanSlat) has an engagement rate of 0.411%, based on the median interactions across 9 original posts from the last 30 days against 200,958 followers. Replies, reposts and quote-posts of other people are excluded from that sample.
- Is that a good engagement rate?
- At 0.411%, Boyan Slat sits above the 50th percentile of the 204,880 accounts in this comparison. Those comparison accounts are all large ones, because our scanning cadence is weighted towards big accounts, so this is a ranking among peers of similar scale rather than a ranking across X.
- Does @BoyanSlat have real engagement?
- Its engagement rate beats 83% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (20,444 accounts), which puts it in the top quarter for its size group. Ranking inside a size band matters because engagement rate falls as accounts grow, so a raw rate would mostly re-measure the follower count. It is a starting point for a look at follower quality, not a verdict on it.
- When does @BoyanSlat post?
- Most posts go out around 13:00 UTC, and Wednesday is its busiest day, at roughly 0.67 posts per day across the measured window.
