A typical post picks up 29 interactions against 125K followers, an engagement rate of 0.023%. Measured over 43 original posts, its engagement rate beats 28% of 15,519 tracked accounts of a similar size, which puts it in the middle of its size range rather than at either end. Posts are seen about 2.8K times each, and 1.03% of those impressions turn into an interaction. That is about 2.25% of the follower count, which is the gap between an audience on paper and an audience in a timeline. Posting runs at about 1.7 posts a day over the last 30 days, though only 13% of days saw any activity at all. Most posts go out around 19:00 UTC, and Wednesday is the busiest day of the week. Of the 43 posts sampled, 88% carry an image or video, 9% are part of a thread and 12% link out. The account's strongest tracked post pulled 797 interactions, about 27x its own typical post. Recurring topics include #dangotelamurefinery, #article232, #cofek.

Compared with accounts its own size

Stephen Mutoro's engagement rate beats 28% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (15,519 accounts, accounts of similar size (decile 7 of 10)). A percentile is spread evenly by construction, so 50 really is the middle of that group and 90 really is its top tenth.

On engagement per impression rather than per follower it beats 41% of the same group. When those two numbers disagree, the gap is about how far its posts travel rather than how people react to them.

Where this sits in the catalog

At 0.023%, Stephen Mutoro sits above the 25th percentile of the 157,102 accounts in this comparison. That places it in the below the median band, which runs 0.022% to 0.128%.

Formats this account uses

Its own posting mix on the left, and what each of those formats does across every account we track on the right. Only formats where the effect clears our publish test appear here, so an empty row is a format we could not measure rather than one that does nothing.

These are catalog-wide differences applied to this account's own posting mix, not a measurement of how each format performs for this account specifically. We keep one median per account, not one per format per account, so the second thing is not something this data can tell you.

They will tell you Dangote's Lamu Refinery will create 60,000+ jobs. 🌻Don't clap yet. Look at the numbers. The Lagos refinery runs at 700,000 barrels a day. It employs roughly 3,000 people. Not 60,000. About 3,000. 🌻So where does 60,000 come from? Construction headcount. Casual labour. Riggers, welders, drivers. Hired for the build. Gone when it ends. That is not a career. That is a contract with an expiry date. 🌻A refinery runs on machines, not muscle. The permanent jobs are few and technical. Even a generous estimate for Lamu struggles to pass 5,000. 🌻And in Lagos, a local youth council found fewer than 5% of the people on one training list were from Ibeju-Lekki. 🌻Now the maths. Lamu County has about 144,000 people. 60,000 jobs would equal 42% of the whole county. Children and elders included. Does that sound real to you? 🌻So why are Kenyans being sold a figure the Lagos plant can't come near? How many permanent jobs? How many for Lamu residents? What pay? For how long? Put it in writing. Disclose it. 🌻Questioning the deal is not opposing it. It is due diligence #TheTruthWillSetUsFree

Let me be clear. No Kenyan in his right mind opposes meaningful foreign investment. The benefits are obvious. We welcome it. 🌻What we reject is intimidation. The idea that a project worth trillions sits above Kenyan law. That it must be swallowed without questions. 🌻Public interest clarification is not optional. It is non-negotiable. 🌻Mr @AlikoDangote says he is ready to confront Kenyans opposed to his project. That is arrogance. It is the same impunity displayed by Zimbabwe's Wicknell Chivayo. 🌻This is not Tinubu's Nigeria. Kenya has run for over 63 years without his money. He must respect our democratic space. No matter how close he feels to Kenya's transient power: #SomeoneTellAlikoDangote to apologise. Now!

Shame of new NCIC chairman: lots of press conferences, lots of thunder, then "go and sin no more." Forgiveness again. If hate speech ends in a sermon every time, why does the commission exist? Media, stop giving this pulpit free airtime until it finds its teeth! https://t.co/9rFhq5LlFT

These games on Linda Mwananchi Party registration must stop. Now. 🌻A day after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal overturned the Registrar's rejection of the Linda Mwananchi Movement name, one Wanyonyi suddenly surfaces, claiming he applied for the same name way back on February 24. 🌻Convenient. Very convenient. 🌻When the Tribunal was hearing the actual dispute, where was he? Nowher! 🌻The Tribunal itself noted that his February application was not before it. He never challenged the Registrar's earlier rejection of it. He sat out the case, then showed up after the verdict to demand priority. 🌻Registrars of Political Parties are not supposed to be a lottery for latecomers to game once a court has spoken. 🌻Now the Registrar has seven days to reconsider. The country is watching 🌻Apply the law. Apply it evenly. And do not let a last-minute, post-judgment claim become a back door to frustrate the freedom to form a political party #EdwinSifuna2027

MUZZLING THE PRESS … IN RUTO’S NAME! ▪️ Sh400 a head. That's the going rate for goons "defending" a President ▪️ A crowd hired to storm @StandardKenya over "negative headlines" ended up turning on its’ own organisers over unpaid allowances. ▪️ One mobiliser reportedly fled in a police vehicle, abandoning those he hired. Some walked home. The siege collapsed into a scuffle over pay. ▪️ Laugh if you want, but read the pattern: 🟣 An Associate Editor abducted on Sept 1, dumped in Machakos. No arrests yet.
🟢 MPs on the floor of the House calling for the paper to be shut down.
🔴 A Head of State calling a newsroom "extortionist" on X.

The NIF is becoming a back door for public funds … 🌻Money that goes through the Fund skips the Controller of Budget. There is no CoB approval and or monitoring. 🌻If NIF money finances the Dangote Lamu refinery, public funds are financing a private project. The only difference is that the usual oversight is gone. 🌻Now look at the wider move: Government is withdrawing Sh46B for 41 energy projects from the 2026/27 budget. Those projects will be funded through the NIF instead. Think about what that means: ✅Less money passes through the budget. ✅Less spending gets checked by the CoB ✅Less of it gets debated by Parliament. 🌻Then consider the risk. If the Dangote project collapses, the loss is public. Taxpayers carry it. The private owners walk away. Sad 🌻Private upside. Public downside. No oversight in between. 🌻Public money must stay under public scrutiny, whichever vehicle carries it. Kenyans should ask before a single shilling moves. Who approves it? Who monitors it? Who answers if it fails? #NIF #DangoteRefinery

Dear Dr Kamau Thugge @CBKKenya. I know you possibly the most unresponsive Governor in CBK’s history. Patrick & Njuguna, before you, were much better in responding to inquiries. Pleas respond to this, in the public interest 🌻 Sh129.79 to the dollar. Again. The shilling has barely moved in two years. That isn't a free float. It's a managed peg in all but name 🌻How it seems to hold: @KeTreasury let slip that CBK buys dollars from the market to keep the rate steady, while CBK still insists the shilling floats freely. You say the rate is market-driven: try selling dollars above 130. Both can be true. CBK soaks up surplus dollars from remittances, exports and the Safaricom stake sale, which pushed reserves to $15.4B, instead of letting the shilling strengthen. 🌻@IMFNews flagged the shilling as too stable. With a weaker dollar and stronger inflows, it should have appreciated. 🌻Look at CBK's own board today. The shilling is pinned to the dollar but drifts against the rest: £171.68, €147.22. 🌻Meanwhile inflation climbed from 4.3% in February to 6.6% in August. 🌻A stronger shilling could have meant cheaper fuel and cheaper imports. Instead, consumers pay for "stability" that mainly helps service dollar debt. 🌻With no IMF programme since 2025, this peg will be on the table in any new deal. 🌻Kenyans deserve to know: who is this artificial dollar stability for — and at what cost? @IEAKenya @KenyaBankers

Reading these numbers

What is Stephen Mutoro's engagement rate on X?
Stephen Mutoro (@smutoro) has an engagement rate of 0.023%, based on the median interactions across 43 original posts from the last 30 days against 124,683 followers. Replies, reposts and quote-posts of other people are excluded from that sample.
Is that a good engagement rate?
At 0.023%, Stephen Mutoro sits above the 25th percentile of the 157,102 accounts in this comparison. Those comparison accounts are all large ones, because our scanning cadence is weighted towards big accounts, so this is a ranking among peers of similar scale rather than a ranking across X.
Does @smutoro have real engagement?
Its engagement rate beats 28% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (15,519 accounts), which puts it in the middle of its size range group. Ranking inside a size band matters because engagement rate falls as accounts grow, so a raw rate would mostly re-measure the follower count. It is a starting point for a look at follower quality, not a verdict on it.
When does @smutoro post?
Most posts go out around 19:00 UTC, and Wednesday is its busiest day, at roughly 1.7 posts per day across the measured window.
