  NEWS RELEASE FROM THE LABOUR PARTY Beware, Obi, Supporters Destroyed Labour Party, Abure Cautions Dickson The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure has advised the Senator Seriake Dickson leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC to beware of their alliance with former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi and his ravenous supporters whose political motive is always to conquer and usurp leadership of any political party that accommodates them. Barrister Abure who noted that Senator Dickson must have leant from the Labour Party's recent trajectory said that the former governor of Bayelsa state's refusal to Obi's request to field all his supporters in the elective positions in the party was commendable and one way to check the vociferous supporters of the former Labour Party presidential candidate. In a statement, Barrister Abure said Obi, Abia state governor, Dr. Alex Otti and most of their supporters who won election under the free ticket policy of the Labour Party turned around to struggle for the leadership of the party, instead of joining hands with the leadership to build the party and by so doing, destroyed what was Nigeria's greatest opposition party. He said. "They say, history usually repeats itself. Senator Dickson and Co have seen their trajectory and learnt from what happened to us, that a lot of them after they have won and now in government turned round and were struggling with the leadership of the party. So, having leant from that, that is probably why the NDC leadership are collecting what they ought to collect upfront so that they can have the resources to manage the party. "I want to say that Obi and his followers are ingrates who will never remember the sacrifices you made for them. It is even dangerous for the leadership of the NDC to wholly hand over the elective positions to Obi and his followers. We did it in 2022/23, immediately they saw that Obi was interested in the leadership of the party, all those elected under the platform of the party simply followed Obi, forgetting all the sacrifices and suffering we made for them. They went for the structures of the party, from the ward to the national to be dissolved. "Therefore for strategic and political reasons, it is very good for Seriake Dickson not to have given Obi supporters all they needed in the NDC. He needed to bring his own people so that when the chips are down, he will also have people that will speak and defend him. "All those elected under the party, Obi took them to fight the leadership of the party. So why will Seriake Dickson and Co allow Obi to produce all the elected officers or meet all the interests of Obi, it must be balanced. They trooped into NDC with Obi hoping to occupy every space like they did in Labour Party. No leader of any political party seeing what Obi did to Labour Party, along with his followers will make that mistake again." Abure clarified that his intervention arose from people's curiosity on how he navigated the 2022/23 general election with the domineering activities of Peter Obi and his supporters without any crisis. He said that the party did a lot of sacrifices trusting that the invaders will reciprocate the gesture by supporting the party after they formed government. He said, we ensured that Obi's interests were adequately taken care of. We only looked at his body language and we obliged most of his supporters tickets. Most of the tickets were for free believing that we were investing in those persons in line with the philosophy of the party, expecting that when they win, they will bring along necessary supports that will help in the growth of the party. But ironically, when they came into power, they went after the leadership of the party. "They fell into the trap of INEC, when the commission deceived them to say that the tenure of the executive has expired. We had expected them to reject that position. Our leaders ought to have known that what was going on was a reprisal from the role the party leadership played in the 2022/23 general election. "The leaders, particularly, Peter Obi and Alex Otti decided to take over the leadership of the party. In any event, all those that we elected as we speak, up till now, all the years they have spent in the National Assembly did not make any contribution to the party, therefore people like Seriake Dickson and the leaders of the NDC are probably learning from what happened to the Labour Party."   NEW YEAR SPEECH BY THE LABOUR PARTY NATIONAL CHAIRMAN BARRISTER JULIUS ABURE Labour Party already in coalition with Nigerians, remains the best alternative to achieving a prosperous Nigeria Fellow Nigerians and particularly, Labour Party members across the globe, it is with joy that I welcome everyone to the new year. 2025 indeed was a spectacular year filled with mixed feelings for which we give all the glory to the Almighty. It was a year that Labour Party under my leadership surmounted, virtually all distractions by some of the party leaders which had threatened the very peaceful existence of the party. Since April 4, when the Supreme Court, in a landmark judgement, ruled that courts cannot interfere with the party's internal affairs and that leadership disputes are matters for the party to resolve through their internal resolution mechanism, the Labour Party leadership has since reasserted itself. The judgement unsettled not quite a few of our leaders who had surreptitiously funded the crisis. Some have continued to waste state resources seeking for elusive court orders and injunction, all to no avail. Some have also left too. The shackles of bondage holding the party down more than a year now is finally broken with the 31st December, 2025 incidence in Enugu. We want to thank the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for respecting the Supreme Court judgement and has since resumed businesses with my leadership. A few days ago, the candidate of our party in Ekiti state governorship election was uploaded. Similarly, the candidate of our party in Osun state has been accorded his rights by INEC. Preparatory to the 2027 general election, the leadership of the Labour Party had also successfully conducted our congresses across the ward, local government and state in all the states of the federation and FCT with the exception of Abia state due to a court injunction. We cannot therefore wrap up the 2025 without mentioning that while we witnessed a few defections from the party as a result of the crisis, the leadership of the party also welcomed new members in their numbers resulting from our revalidation exercise and new membership drive. The year 2026 however will be remarkable in so many ways being the year preceding the election year. 2026 presents an exceeding hope for Nigerians who will, from the first quarter begin the process of recruiting leadership across all strata in line with the dictates of the constitution which stipulates that elections must hold every four years. We are not unmindful of the fact that many other political parties will be in the field to struggle for power. We in Labour Party knew where we were before the 2023 general election and how under my leadership, we were able to turn things around. It was no fluke, rather the successes recorded were as a result of dint of hard work, strategic application of reasons and structural discipline applied by my leadership. We were so focused that we refused to fall for immediate gains. We knew that we were in the power tussle to win. We are on the march again, the processes of selecting new leaders begins first quarter of the year. Labour Party believes that it remains genuinely the only party that is capable of bringing down the poverty levels because of our socio-economic policy, well articulated which the party stands for. That is why the Labour Party is calling on Nigerians to shine their eyes and not to expect so much from any form of coalition. The only coalition Nigerians need is the coalition with the poor, the market women, civil servants, farmers, students and other proletariats. That coalition is already existing with the Labour Party. Nigerians must distance themselves from coalition of failed politicians; men who literally destroyed Nigeria and brought it to its present comatose stage today. Nigeria should not expect so much from the coalition of looters and plunders of the nation's treasury. It is like having an old wine in a new bottle. These characters who have been present since 1999 are still the protagonists of the coalition. We see them as politicians of convenience, not of ideology, not because they love the country or because they love the masses but because they want to continue to remain in power to loot. A look at the trajectory of some of the dramatis personae of the coalition will shock you. While some are propelled by blind desperation to lead the nation at all cost, and by so doing, have continued to move around virtually all political parties since inception of the present dispensation, some others have been in power since the military days. The latest entrant, unfortunately was the Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate. He is apparently not different from the rest. He is a known betrayal, a pretender that can easily go back to his vomit. In 2022/2023, he joined the Labour Party campaign train and described these his new found collaborators as irresponsible, fraudulent, rascals and incompetent. He specifically described Atiku as too old to be President of Nigeria. Today, he has found nothing wrong to be in a cohort with these men. His later actions have proved Nigerians wrong that he is actually not the character that can lead Nigeria to navigate to its eldorado. Someone who can, on a stroke when his personal interest is in conflict, betrays everyone who has worked with him; someone who cannot manage a micro organisation of a people, cannot be entrusted with the responsibility of managing a country like Nigeria with diverse interest. We need men who can build our Institutions and develop them to have shock absorbers that can withstand dictatorial tendencies. We don't need men who are self-centered and who can compromise integrity, dignity for personal ambition.   STATEMENT FROM THE LABOUR PARTY Abure rejects Appeal Court decision, Heads to Supreme Court Excerpt of his statement. We have seen what transpired today at the Appeal Court and we want to say very clearly that the judgement is not acceptable to all of us in the Labour Party led by my humble self. I want to say very clearly that the judgement is against all known principles of law. The courts, the Supreme Courts and all courts in Nigeria have stated very clearly that the issues of leadership of a political party is an internal affairs of a political party. It is also not true and I disagree when people say that the tenure of this executive has expired. That is untrue and very unacceptable to us. Nigerians will recall that on the 27th of March 2024, we had a valid convention that was held in Nnewi and that convention is still valid and subsisting for 4 years. I want to say that the court today didn't look at that before arriving at the conclusion that the tenure has expired. I must also say clearly that the Umuahia meeting which produced the Caretaker Committee was also against the Labour Party constitution. It is only the National Chairman and National Secretary of a Political Party who has the power to convene any NEC meeting of any of sort. I want to say very clearly that we are going to appeal that decision. Today's decision of the Appeal Court is not acceptable to us and we reject it in its entirety.   STATEMENT FROM THE LABOUR PARTY Abia State Deputy Governor, Nenadi Usman, others forcefully break into National Secretariat, cart away valuables, and bar staff from gaining access. The leadership of the Labour Party has condemned the forceful breaking into and occupation of the National Secretariat by the Abia state deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu and Senator Nenadi Usman, amongst others on Tuesday. The invasion according to security personnel at the Secretariat said that hoodlums invaded the Secretariat around 1am early on Tuesday to pull down party's billboards and replaced them with that of the Nenadi Usman. In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the invasion aided by eight Truck-load of Policemen, refused entrance officers and staff of the party and ensuring only names of members of Nenadi Interim leadership were given access into the Secretariat. "The Abure led leadership is dumbfounded by the invasion of its secretariat by Nenadi camp aided by Police in the early hours of Tuesday. Accompanied by the Abia state deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, Senator Nenadi ordered his hoodlums to break into all the offices, and carted files and other materials alongside. When some of our senior officials came to office in the morning, we were prevented by the Police. We refused to confront them to avoid clashes and confrontations, choosing peaceful approach. It is on record that a Federal High Court in FCT gave a judgement which recognized Senator Usman as the Interim Chairman of the Labour Party. However, the party leadership has obtained a Stay of Execution and has since appealed the judgement. It is therefore inappropriate and needless for any group to resort to self-help by illegally breaking into the National Secretariat. We are by this statement calling on the Police, Department of State Security, office of the National Security Adviser and other relevant agencies to take note of the unlawful invasion of our party Secretariat. If this anomaly is not checked, it is a pointer that our democracy and its institutions are being threatened. We are also calling on our party faithfuls to remain vigilant as the party leadership is doing everything within the law to ensure that justice is not denied the party.   STATEMENT FROM THE LABOUR PARTY LABOUR PARTY DISTRIBUTES FREE FORMS, TO FIELD CANDIDATES ACROSS ALL POSITIONS A Press Conference by the National Chairman of Labour Party, Barr. Julius Abure in Abuja on Monday, the 18th of May, 2026. Gentlemen of the Press, you are welcome to this all important Press Conference by the Labour Party being the first of such after the January 21st Appeal Court judgement against our leadership. Nigerians should recall that when the court of Appeal delivered judgment on the 21st of April, 2026 on the Labour Party crisis, our leadership stated clearly that the party will be heading to the Supreme Court. I am happy to announce that we have filed our notice of appeal, and that we are waiting for the compilation of our records so that we can properly file our brief in the Supreme Court. It is pertinent at this point to put the records straight, due to the misconception that is associated with the story of Labour Party in some sections of the media, which are clearly incorrect and hugely misrepresenting the facts of the matter. What is happening to the party presently is a clear case of victimisation aftermath of the role we played in the 2023 general election. Labour Party was marked for decimation and possible annihilation but unfortunately, those who were the beneficiaries of that hugely successful political action are today the ones being used as protagonists and point men to carry out the execution of the plot against the party. It is important to note that the current leadership of the Labour Party, the Abure led executive, emerged through the National Convention held on the 27th of March, 2024 at Nnewi. All the reports from the convention as required by the law were submitted to the INEC and were all accepted, only for INEC to come up in August 2024, five months after, to say that the tenure of the executive has expired, There were no justifiable reasons for INEC's volte-face and ironically, one would have expected all those we have elected to team up with the leadership to resist INEC and confront them with the fact on ground but instead, they proceeded to set up a caretaker committee that eventually created faction in the party. In any event, we went to court and the Federal High Court by Justice Nwite stated clearly that the convention that brought our executive was in line with the law and that INEC didn't have any reason not to recognize the leadership of the party and ordered INEC to recognize the leadership of the party. The court of Appeal also affirmed the judgement of the trial court. It was this matter that Nenadi Usman and co appealed against, and the Supreme Court stated clearly that issues of leadership are an internal affairs of the party. From that time to January, 2026, we have been running the party, working closely with INEC, until on the 21st of January when Justice Peter Lifu pronounced as stated that Nenadi Usman was the chairman of the party. How he arrived at that and made that flip-flop is still surprising to us. This was what resulted in the appeal and the Court of Appeal regrettably affirmed that decision. Because of the injustice involved and because our action will enhance the legal jurisprudence in Nigeria, we want to see what the Supreme Court will say in line with what was said before and now. This is what has given us the courage to say that we are going to the Supreme Court. In any event, Labour Party under our leadership will participate FULLY in the 2027 elections. Our forms are available and aspirants have been picking forms. All our forms can be accessed in all the Labour Party social and online platforms, for free. Just download, fill them and submit to our state chairmen across the nation. While our governorship and state Houses of Assembly primaries will hold on Wednesday May 27th 2026, the House of Representatives and the Senate primaries will hold on Friday May 29th, 2026. All exercises will be through direct primaries which will take place at the Local Government headquarters of the party. A presidential candidate will emerge through a consensus arrangement on Friday May 29th, 2026 in a presidential primaries which will hold in Abuja. You may want to know why we have chosen to participate fully for this coming election in spite of the Appeal Court ruling. Of course, you are aware that for anyone to participate in a pre-election matter, you must have participated in all the processes leading to the primaries including buying of nomination forms and observation all INEC regulations. As a result, we have encouraged all our members across the country who have interest in running for elective offices to pick up the necessary form for FREE so that they can participate and be part of the process. This decision is informed by the fact that all that Nenadi Usman and co have done are purely illegal. The notice they wrote to INEC was illegal, in the sense that only NEC of a party can approve and fix dates for congresses and primaries. You will recall that they did not hold any NEC before publishing their intention to embark on congresses and primaries and INEC wrote them informing them of the illegality of their action. When they eventually called for a NEC, it never formed quorum as they alienated a significant constituents of the NEC including the state chairmen and secretaries. These chairmen and secretaries have since taken action and sacked the Nenadi executive and have also sued the executive, a matter which is still pending in the court. Everything they have done or purported to be doing is illegal because you can't put something on nothing and expect it to stand. Therefore, we expect that all they have done with respect to the nomination of candidates will be null and void. That is why our members, the true Labour Party members need to participate in the ongoing exercise and produce their candidates across Nigeria. We have therefore chosen to ensure through our Free forms initiative, to enfranchise them to participate in the coming general election and the result has been massive and encouraging. To further make some clarifications, our Free Form Initiative is in line with the philosophy and ideology of the Labour Party. This is to make partisan politics easy and affordable for those who have the capacity to win elections but may not have the huge funds to deploy into the contest. This will not be the first time that the Labour Party will be doing it. We did it in the 2022/23 general election and that was why Okada riders and palm kernel crushers won seats in the National Assembly. Also, Nigerians will recall that January this year, we had announced that our forms should be issued FREE of charge for those who will attend our mentorship programs. A party like the Labour Party should not charge an exorbitant price for their forms. We are shocked that Nenadi Usman and her fellow usurpers are strangulating aspirants with high fees. Though they are strangers to the Labour Party, we expect them to go back and learn the philosophy and ideology of the Labour Party We also need to make it very clear that a lot of misconception has been spreading, probably deliberately, that the leadership of the Labour Party requested huge sums of money from Abia state governor, Dr. Alex Otti in order to reconcile. We need to make it categorically clear that the meeting we had with His Excellency, Governor Otti was purely for reconciliation and how to forge ahead but that meeting produced no headway because the governor refused to give an inch to his earlier recalcitrant stand, insisting that all the structure of the party must be dissolved. The terms of our proposal to him are as follows. One, to share the positions in the NWC; Two, to take his governorship ticket and produce all the state House of Assembly candidates including all the candidates for House of Representatives and Senate in Abia state; and Three, to produce any other governorship, House of Representatives and Senatorial candidates in other states where he might have interest. We further conceded the offices of the National Secretary and other key national offices. But with all these sacrifices from the leadership, the Governor declined all the proposals and insisted that already all positions in the NWC have been filled, by him. While offering to us the Vice Chairman and Secretary of the Board of Trustees. At no time was the issue of money discussed. Nobody made any financial requests and nobody offered any money to anyone. We are therefore calling on all party members and supporters to disregard those fake news which sources are not too difficult to decipher. Our leadership will not rest until we recover our party from some political buccaneers and merchants who will stop at nothing until the soul of the party is completely destroyed. We believe that the Supreme Court will do justice to the matter, and until then, we will continue to carry out our responsibilities entrusted on us by the March 27, 2024 convention of the party in Nnewi. With a full sense of responsibility and unwavering commitment to our nation, I proudly accept the nomination of our great party, the Labour Party, as its Presidential Candidate for the 2027 General Election. I am particularly humbled that this nomination emerged through consensus. It is a demonstration of the confidence, unity, and shared vision of our great party. It belongs to the healthcare professional working tirelessly to save lives. We must build a Nigeria where every child has access to quality education, where every family feels secure, where every worker earns a dignified living, and where every citizen has a fair opportunity to succeed regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, social status, or geographical location. My fellow Nigerians, our nation stands at a defining moment. As Nelson Mandela once said: "It always seems impossible until it is done." Today, many may think that rebuilding Nigeria is impossible. Many may believe that our challenges are too deep and our divisions are too wide. But history teaches us that nations rise when courageous people choose hope over despair and action over excuses. The time has come to move beyond excuses. The time has come for practical solutions. The time has come to restore hope. The time has come to renew the promise of our great nation. Today, I present to you a covenant built on four pillars: 1. Economic Prosperity and Dignified Jobs Our administration will pursue policies that stimulate production rather than consumption. We will support small and medium-scale enterprises, expand access to affordable credit, promote local manufacturing, strengthen agriculture, encourage innovation, revive industries, and create an environment where businesses can thrive. Our objective is clear: to create millions of sustainable jobs and restore dignity to labour. We shall build an economy that rewards enterprise, protects workers, attracts investment, and creates opportunities for every Nigerian. 2. Quality Education and Human Capital Development No nation can rise above the quality of its education. We will invest significantly in education at all levels, improve school infrastructure, strengthen teacher training, modernize our curricula, and ensure that technology becomes a tool for learning, innovation, and economic advancement. Every Nigerian child, whether in the city or in a rural community, must have access to quality education and equal opportunities to succeed. No child will be left behind. Our young people are not merely the leaders of tomorrow; they are the builders of today. Throughout my public life, I have consistently championed the inclusion of young people in politics, governance, entrepreneurship, and nation-building because I firmly believe that no nation can reach its full potential while excluding the energy, creativity, and innovation of its youth. Today, the world is witnessing a generational shift in leadership. It is Youth O'Clock across the world. Across continents, nations are increasingly entrusting leadership responsibilities to younger generations, and the results have been remarkable. In France, a new generation of leadership demonstrated that age should never be a barrier to vision, courage, innovation, and national transformation. In Senegal, youthful leadership has energized leadership participation, inspired hope among citizens, and reinforced the belief that a nation thrives when it gives its young people a seat at the decision-making table. The lesson is clear: nations that empower their youth position themselves for greater prosperity, competitiveness, and relevance in the twenty-first century. Nigeria cannot afford to be left behind. Our youths are not asking for opportunities because of their age; they are asking for opportunities because of their abilities, talents, and contributions. They are already leading successful businesses, driving technological innovation, creating jobs, excelling in the creative economy, advancing scientific discoveries, and representing Nigeria with distinction around the world. As a proud member of this generation, I pledge to bring youthful vigour, fresh thinking, courage, passion, innovation, and a results-oriented approach to governance. Our administration will deliberately unlock the productive potential of our young people through education, technology, skills development, entrepreneurship, access to finance, and leadership opportunities. Together, we shall move Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy to a production-driven economy. We shall build a nation that produces what it consumes, exports what it produces, creates opportunities for its people, and competes confidently in the global marketplace. The future belongs to nations that empower their youth. The future belongs to nations that produce. And under our leadership, Nigeria shall be one of those nations. 3. Security, Justice and National Stability Security is the first responsibility of government. Our administration will strengthen our security institutions, improve intelligence gathering, secure our borders, protect our farmers, defend our communities, and ensure that every Nigerian can live, work, and travel without fear. We shall pursue security not merely through force, but through justice, economic opportunity, and national inclusion. Every Nigerian deserves to sleep with both eyes closed. 4. Power, Infrastructure and Industrial Development No economy can grow in darkness.   STATEMENT FROM THE LABOUR PARTY Nenadi: Labour Party to appeal Judgement ... It's curious that our adversaries were boasting, jubilating before judgement was delivered The Barrister Julius Abure leadership of the Labour Party has said it will immediately appeal the judgement of the Federal High Court in FCT which gave recognition to Esther Nenadi Usman's Caretaker Committee. In a judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu, the court misinterpreted the April 4, 2025, verdict of the Supreme Court of Nigeria to declare a former Minister of Finance, and a non registered member of the Labour Party, Esther Nenadi Usman, as the Caretaker chairman of the party which is alien to the Labour Party Constitution. In a statement issued in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, the party held that the judgement was a clear contradiction against the Supreme Court judgement which clearly stated that no court has the power to appoint leadership for any political party and that leadership issue is an internal affairs of the political party. The party said it is happy that the Federal High Court of the FCT is not the last court, and that the party will go on appeal and put its position before the Court of Appeal. According to the party's spokesperson, "Although we are yet to see the Certified True Copy of the judgment in order to fully make comment about it, our position will become stronger when we see the CTC of the judgement. But generally, from the brief we have gotten so far, it is clear that the party will appeal the judgement. "Before today's judgment, we have been suspecting that it may go this way because of the body language around the court. When the matter was first filed, it was assigned to Justice Omotosho and suddenly, there was a sumarsult, as another matter was filed which was impari material and the one sent to Omotosho was withdrawn and now sent to Justice Peter Lifu. That was a red flag for us. "Secondly, the court refused us the opportunity to respond to issues raised in the counter affidavit filed by other parties and quickly adjourned for judgement. That was the second red flag. "Our adversaries were all over the places, jubilating weeks before, over a judgement that has not been delivered, telling everyone that they have already won. The jubilation by our adversaries was all over the social media, that come today the judiciary will hand over the party to Dr. Alex Otti. "Now coming to look at the judgement itself, Nigerians should remember that the Court of Appeal pronounced Julius Abure's National Working Committee as the authentic leadership of the party. That pronouncement was what Nenadi Usman took to the Supreme Court to say that the courts (Federal High Court and Appeal Court) were wrong to have pronounced somebody as the Chairman of the Party. Ironically, today, a Federal High Court has sumarsulted and pronounced somebody as the Caretaker National Chairman of a party. So what is the judiciary turning into? "To us, that was a clear contradiction against what the Supreme Court said. Secondly, the Supreme Court said that all matters that have to do with the leadership of the political party are internal affairs of the party and that has been the position of the Supreme Court. "The courts have severely declined jurisdiction on matters that have to do with internal affairs of political parties. Looking at the judgement itself, in one breath, the court said the Caretaker Committee was properly set up, in another breath, the court said, it was an internal affair of a political party. In any event, the court was even wrong to be interpreting the decision of the Supreme Court. "Secondly, even the Supreme Court never said that our tenure has expired. The supreme Court simply declined jurisdiction in entertaining the matter because it was an internal affairs of the party. "In any event, the tenure of the executive had never expired. The tenure of the executive was to expire in June 2024 but the National Convention was held in March, 2024 before the expiration of the then executive, which created the present leadership of the party. So for the court to have stated that the tenure has expired and a vacuum created are all laughable." "It is curious at how this court arrived at holding that there was a vacuum in the leadership of the party when it didn't go into the validity and legality of the national convention of the party held on March 27th, 2024. The party however urged its members to remain calm as the leadership will do everything within the laws to ensure that justice is served for the interest of the party. It warned that the party is not for sale and no amount of financial power will make us abdicate our leadership position in the party.   STATEMENT FROM THE LABOUR PARTY Candidates' Upload: Labour Party commends NDC, raises concern over INEC selective obedience to court proceedings The leadership of the Labour Party has commended the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC for finally uploading its candidates data into the portal despite an initial attempt by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to deny them access to the portal. The party however raised concern over INEC's selective obedience to court proceedings and order, warning that democracy in Nigeria faces great danger if the present leadership of INEC is allowed to decide orders to obey or disobey. The National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, in a statement wondered why INEC refused to obey a notice of appeal and motion for stay of execution lawfully filed by the Julius Abure led executive against a ruling of a Federal High Court which ruled in favour of Nenadi Usman's interim executive. According to the party's spokesperson, "The position of the law is that once there is a motion for stay and a notice of appeal, all parties are expected to wait until the motion for stay is determined before any other actions are taken. But the case of Labour Party, INEC refused to observe that judicial principle and was in a hurry to obey that order." He noted that though it was good that INEC observed that judicial principle in the matter as regards to the NDC but quite unfortunate that it chose to turn a blind eyes to the case involving Labour Party. "Why is INEC not following the rule of law, why is the commission embarking on selective obedience to Court judgement? It chooses orders to obey and the ones not to obey. The rule of law indicates that all judicial proceedings must be respected and that all court orders must be given equal treatment. "We are saying this, not because we are against the treatment INEC meted to NDC or any other person for that, but against the background of our own circumstances. When the Federal High Court judgment that brought in Nenadi was given on the 21st of January, 2026, we immediately filed a notice of appeal, and motion for stay of execution, but on the 29th of January, INEC quickly obeyed court order, in spite of the notice of appeal and a motion of stay. INEC removed our name from the portal when the motion for stay and a notice of appeal were all pending. That on its own was illegal. "Why we are bringing it to the public is because in the case of NDC, INEC gave its reason that because of the motion for stay and a notice of appeal, that it was compelled to upload the NDC. Why did the commission not apply the same principle to Labour Party? "Secondly, if you recall, there was a Federal High Court order directing INEC that it should comply with the amended electoral act, that its timetable was not in consonant with the Electoral Act, INEC filed a notice of appeal and it refused to obey that order on the ground that the commission was on appeal. "All of these put together, do we now say that INEC is unjustly targeting Labour Party, given the background that it was this same INEC that falsely orchestrated the crisis in the Labour Party when it alleged that the tenure of our executive has expired. When indeed, INEC was given the notice of the convention and a report was given to the commission after the convention as required by the law, and, the CTC was issued to the party. But in spite of all these, the commission still came up to say that the tenure had expired. INEC deliberately waited till June when the tenure was deemed to have expired before it raised the issue. "We are raising this question because when it happened to Labour Party people were quiet, thinking that it will not get to them but an injury to one should be an injury to all.
