Danilo Palomino fue un personaje con trastornos mentales, abandonado por todos, sociedad y Estado, solo quedó para ser burlado. Acogido únicamente por una academia de Jiu Jitsu que lo becó. Un día lo agarraron en el centro y le rompieron todos sus dientes y quedó para seguir siendo burla. Otra víctima más de nosotros. Lo conocí y siempre le escuchaba cuando me lo encontraba. Hay gente que cree que una multa es una provocación, que un llamado de atención es una ofensa y que cumplir la ley depende de su estado de ánimo. Hace pocos días, en Samborondón, un conductor agredió salvajemente a un trabajador de Parqueo Positivo por cumplir con su trabajo. Por una multa insignificante pudo haberlo matado. No estamos hablando necesariamente de delincuentes. Estamos hablando de personas que no saben controlar la ira y que reaccionan con violencia cuando alguien les pone un límite. De individuos acostumbrados a hacer lo que quieren y que consideran intolerable que una autoridad les diga: hasta aquí. Y eso también es peligroso. Porque ninguna multa, ninguna discusión y ningún llamado de atención justifican un golpe. Si una decisión parece injusta, se reclama. Si una norma parece equivocada, se impugna. Pero no se agrede. No vivimos en la selva. Vivimos en comunidad. Y vivir en comunidad significa aceptar reglas, respetar límites y entender que los demás también tienen derechos. Estamos cultivando demasiado la violencia como argumento. En las calles, en el tránsito, en los colegios. A la menor contrariedad, aparece el insulto, la amenaza o el puño. Eso tiene que cambiar. Necesitamos recuperar el respeto por la ley y por el prójimo. La civilización comienza precisamente allí: cuando entendemos que no podemos resolver a golpes aquello que no somos capaces de resolver con palabras.
